Musical group highlights tradition, culture during Hispanic Heritage event

The trio of musicians known as Cuicani took a Fort McCoy audience on an uplifting musical tour of Latin America during an Oct. 1 event at Fort McCoy.

The event, which was sponsored by the Fort McCoy Equal Opportunity Office, was an observance of Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from Sept. 15-Oct. 15.

Raquel G. Paraiso, Enrique Rueda and Francisco Lopez presented a number of musical selections that honored the culture and traditions of many areas in Latin America.

Rueda, who is from Columbia, and Lopez, who is from Mexico, brought along musical selections from their areas, especially the Andes region. Rueda also made some of the instruments he played.

Lopez said the group plays at many venues, including the Arts, Community and Education for kindergarten through sixth grade students in Milwaukee.

Pariso, who is from Spain, adds her interpretation of the music to the group’s message.
