The Friends and Spouses of Fort McCoy club has scheduled a Bunco game and a Tastefully Simple food-product demonstration during a luncheon Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 10:45 a.m. at McCoy’s, building 1571.

Disability Awareness Month observance Oct. 14  [ back to top ]

A Disability Awareness Month observance will be held Oct. 14 from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at McCoy’s, building 1571. Lunch will be on your own, and the presentation begins at noon.

The guest speaker will be Jerome D. Lyons with the Department of Defense (DoD) Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program (CAP).

CAP is a centrally funded reasonable-accommodations program for employees with disabilities in the DoD. The program provides assistive technology, devices, and free services to federal agencies.

Lyons has been a member of the CAP program for more than 12 years and has been involved with CAP Office program management, acquisitions, and training.

He provides a special emphasis on technology for people with dexterity disabilities and workstation assessments.

The event is a training event open to the entire Fort McCoy community and official time may be granted.

American Red Cross blood drive Oct. 14 at Rumpel Fitness Center  [ back to top ]

An American Red Cross blood drive will be held Thursday, Oct. 14 from 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

AFAP Conference to be held at Fort McCoy Oct. 20-21  [ back to top ]

The annual Fort McCoy Army Family Action Plan (AFAP) conference will be held Oct. 20-21 at building 905.

Members of the Fort McCoy community are welcome to observe the process from 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Oct. 20 and the conference report out to the garrison commander at 1 p.m. Oct 21.

The AFAP conference volunteers will review and make recommendations on 14 different issues, which were submitted by the Fort McCoy community throughout the year.

Introduction to Safety classes set for Oct. 21, 26  [ back to top ]

A one-day Introduction to Safety course will be offered Oct. 21 and 26 at Fort McCoy.

This course is designed primarily for first- line supervisors and additional/collateral duty safety personnel, but is open to anyone interested in safety.

The course will provide a basic knowledge of the Army Safety Program and common Occupational Health and Safety Administration General Industry Standards.

Foosball Night will be held each Thursday in October at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Activity Center, building 2000.

Community Activity Center hosts movies Fridays, Saturdays   [ back to top ]

Free movie and popcorn nights are held every Friday and Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Activity Center, building 2000.

Movies include some of the newest releases available. Titles for October include “The Other Guys,” “Step Up 3-D” “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” and “Eat, Pray Love.”

ACS Resource Library spotlights Domestic Abuse Prevention Month   [ back to top ]

In observance of October being Domestic Abuse Prevention Month, domestic abuse prevention materials are featured in the October “spotlight” at the Army Community Service (ACS) Library, building 2111.

Featured titles include, “Abused Men: The Hidden Side of Domestic Violence,” “The Domestic Violence Sourcebook,” “Family and Friends Guide to Domestic Violence,” “Surviving Domestic Violence,” “Stop Domestic Violence,” and “The Verbally Abusive Relationship.”

Family Focus Franks can be earned for checking out October “spotlight” materials.

Team Management training set for Nov. 2 at Army Community Service  [ back to top ]
Team Management training will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Army Community Service (ACS), building 2111.

Topics presented will include, communication skills, building cohesive teams, meeting management and managing group conflict.

Christmas Card Workshops scheduled for Nov. 6, 20  [ back to top ]
Family Christmas Card Workshops will be held Saturday, Nov. 6 and 20 from 9 a.m. – 11:30 p.m. at building 1130.

All supplies for Families to create personalized Christmas cards will be provided.

The workshops are open to Families registered in the Family Focus Program. Each Family attending must include a minimum of one adult and one child.

Class size is limited. Register by Friday, Oct. 29 by calling Army Community Service at 608-388-3505.

 

Sponsorship training set for Nov. 9 at ACS  [ back to top ]
Sponsorship training will be offered Tuesday, Nov. 9 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. at Army Community Service (ACS), building 2111.

Sponsorship is a commander’s program that assists Soldiers, civilian employees and Family members during a permanent change of station or reassignment process. The sponsorship program helps improve unit or organization cohesion and readiness.

Topics include regulations and forms, program entitlements, types of sponsorship, sponsor responsibilities, and commander responsibilities.

Army Digital Photography contest submissions due by Nov. 30  [ back to top ]
The 2010 Army Digital Photography contest currently is accepting submissions for the annual competition.

Military personnel and Department of Defense civilians are eligible to enter the contest and will be judged in separate divisions. Entries for the web-based competition must be submitted through the contest website at https://artscrafts.fmwrc.army.mil by Tuesday, Nov. 30.

CDC Strong Beginnings pre-k program still has openings  [ back to top ]
The Strong Beginnings pre-kindergarten program at the Fort McCoy Child Development Center has openings for children who turned four years old on or before Sept. 1.

The program prepares children for kindergarten by teaching classroom management skills, math, reading, science, computers, social studies, and the arts.
