Additional military housing units
approved for Fort McCoy
|Fort McCoy will build eight additional military housing
units on South Post as a result of funding from the American Recovery
and Reinvestment Act, also known as stimulus funds.
Twenty-three units currently are under construction in the first phase
of the project. These additional 31 units bring the total housing units
— built in 1998 and after — to 55 at Fort McCoy.
The low bidder for the eight housing units is W. Gohman Construction
from St. Joseph, Minn.
Infrastructure, including roads, water and sewer, landscaping,
playground area, etc., is included in the $3.3 million project cost.
The projected completion date of the new project is winter 2012.
The general contractor for phase one is Carlson Construction of Joliet,
Ill. This construction has a tentative completion date of May 2011.
All housing units feature four bedrooms, kitchens, laundries, family
rooms and two-car garages.
The housing will be issued to eligible active-duty Soldiers on Permanent
Change of Station orders who are on the waiting list for post housing,
said Sherry Oslie, Fort McCoy Housing Management specialist.
Plans are in place to construct additional military Family housing on
South Post to meet the post’s needs. Oslie said the construction of
additional military housing units will depend on available funding,
results of an Army Housing Market Analysis and required approvals.
