Fashion show

Safety Center CSM to visit McCoy Oct. 4  [ back to top ]

Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Eyer of the U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center will visit Fort McCoy Monday, Oct. 4. Eyer will give a presentation from 10 – 11 a.m. at building 905.

The presentation will cover Deployed Safety Lessons Learned, Controlling Risky Behaviors Demonstrated by Soldiers, and Root Cause of Army Fatalities.

A question-and-answer forum will follow the presentation.

All military and Department of Defense civilian personnel are encouraged to attend the presentation.

The Regional Training Center-Central and the Installation Safety Office are sponsoring the event.

Disability Awareness Month program set for Oct. 14   [ back to top ]

A Disability Awareness Month Program will be held Thursday, Oct. 14 at McCoy’s, building 1571. Everyone in the Fort McCoy community is welcome to attend. Lunch will be on your own from 11:30 a.m. - noon, and the program begins promptly at noon.

The guest speaker is Jerome D. Lyons, program analyst for the Department of Defense (DoD) Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program (CAP). CAP is a centrally funded reasonable accommodations program for employees with disabilities who work for the DoD. The program provides free assistive technology, devices, and services to federal agencies.

Lyons has been involved with CAP Office program management, acquisitions, and training. This is a training opportunity. Official time may be given. For more information about this event, contact the host organization, the Fort McCoy Equal Employment Opportunity Office at 608-388-3106/3107.

Customer service assessment due by Sept. 26  [ back to top ]

Time is running out to complete Fort McCoy’s annual Customer Service Assessment sponsored by Headquarters, Installation Management Command.

The assessment is available at http://www.mymilitaryvoice.org until Sunday, Sept. 26. This is an opportunity to provide feedback on the services provided by Fort McCoy.

Instructor trainer course set for Sept. 28-30    [ back to top ]

An Instructor Trainer course, which qualifies participants to be Army Family Team Building Program instructors, will be held Sept. 28-29 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sept. 30 from 8 a.m. – noon, at the Army Community Service (ACS) Center, building 2111.

Topics include Introduction to Effective Instructors, Platform Skills, The Adult Learner, Managing the Learning Environment, Methods of Instruction, and the Preparation Process. Participants also will be required to give a 10-minute presentation.

Wii Bowling competition to begin Oct. 1  [ back to top ]

A Wii Family Bowling Tournament will be held Oct. 1 – Nov. 30 at the Army Community Service (ACS) Center, building 2111, and the Community Activity Center (CAC), building 2000.

Families registered in the Family Focus program can bowl as many games as possible during their allotted time frame and record their scores on the score sheet provided. Score sheets will be turned into ACS and recorded in tournament categories. Prizes will be awarded.

Families must call ACS to schedule bowling times. Bowling times at ACS will be Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and at CAC Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m.

Minimum attendance requirement is at least one adult and one child per Family.

Families will receive 50 Family Focus Franks for each Family member bowling. All score sheets are due at ACS by Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 4 p.m.

DFAS to offer travel administrator course in upcoming months    [ back to top ]

 Several classes will be offered by the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) Lead Defense Travel Administrator (DTA) at Fort McCoy in the upcoming months at the Army Reserve Readiness Training Center, building 50.

The October class schedule is:

Oct. 4 – Cancellation Procedures, 9 – 11 a.m.; Itinerary Adjustments, noon – 2 p.m.
Oct. 13 and 14 – Defense Travel System (DTS) Temporary Duty Documents, 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Oct. 15 – DTS Basics, 8 – 11 a.m.; Constructed Travel, noon-2 p.m.
Oct. 19 – Approval Processes, 8 - 11 a.m.; Travel Policy, noon – 2 p.m.
Oct. 28 – DTA Maintenance Tool Overview, 9 - 11 a.m.; DTA Maintenance Tool People, noon – 2 p.m.

Classes are open to military and Department of Defense civilian personnel. Registration is required no later than five days before the class start date. Class sizes are limited.

Rear Detachment Commander, FRG training to be held Oct. 4-5   [ back to top ]

Rear Detachment Commander and Family Readiness Group training will be held Oct. 4-5 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Army Community Service (ACS) Center, building 2111.

Topics to be covered include Volunteer Management, The Roles and Responsibilities of the Rear Detachment Commander and Family Readiness Group Leader, Working with Families, TRICARE and Legal Overview, Real Life Scenarios and more.

Hispanic Heritage Month observance Oct. 5 at McCoy’s  [ back to top ]

A Hispanic Heritage Month observance will be held Tuesday, Oct. 5 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at McCoy’s, building 1571.

The guest speaker, Dr. Leigh Waggoner, was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. She left school at 17 to dance professionally in Mexico City for a year.

She moved to Sparta in 2000. Within the year she began to reach out to the Hispanic community. Out of her efforts Lugar de Reunión (The Meeting Place) was established in 2007. Lugar de Reunión is a free-standing resource center that serves the various needs of Latinos in Monroe County.

The Excellence In Diversity Award, which recognizes a member of the Fort McCoy work force who contributes to diversity through their career field, personal life, and/or community activities, will be presented at this observance.

American Red Cross blood drives set for Oct. 8, 14 at McCoy  [ back to top ]
Two American Red Cross blood drives will be held in October.

The ChalleNGe Academy, building 751 will sponsor a drive Friday, Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

The Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122 also will host a drive Thursday, Oct. 14 from 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Family Calendar Workshop for 2011 to be held Oct. 23  [ back to top ]
A Family Calendar Workshop will be offered Saturday, Oct. 23 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at building 1130.

Rubber stamp art, stickers and many more items will be provided for participants to design a personalized 2011 calendar.
Participants also can bring photos for the calendars.

The event is open to Families registered in the Family Focus Program.

A minimum of one adult and one child is required for attendance.

Class size is limited. Register by Friday, Oct. 15 by calling ACS at 608-388-3505.

 

Employee Health Benefits Fair to be held Oct. 26 in building 1255  [ back to top ]
The 2010 Health Benefits Fair at Fort McCoy will be held Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. at building 1255.

Representatives from several organizations that provide coverage under the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, including BlueCross and BlueShield, are scheduled to be present and answer questions and provide printed material.

The event is hosted by the Fort McCoy Civilian Personnel Advisory Center. For information, call 608-388-2722.

 

Emotional Intelligence training to help manage self, relationships  [ back to top ]
Emotional Intelligence training will be held Thursday, Oct. 28 from 8 a.m. – 4:15 p.m., at Army Community Service, building 2111.

Emotional intelligence is the ability to manage ourselves and our relationships. Topics include Concepts of Emotional Intelligence, Exploring Personality Traits, Personal Conflict Management, and Stress Management.

Fort McCoy fishing contest winners announced  [ back to top ]
Winners of the 2010 Fort McCoy Pine View Campground fishing contest have been announced.

Fish entered in the contest had to be caught in Fort McCoy waters and were judged in Adult and Child Divisions.

The Adult Division winner was John Bell, who caught a 5-pound, 2-ounce largemouth bass. The Child Division winner was Selena Martinez, who caught a 6-pound, 1-ounce bass.
