Fire Department to hold open house

Oct. 12 during Fire Prevention Week

The Fort McCoy Fire Department will hold an open house from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12 in building 1680. Everyone in the Fort McCoy community is welcome to attend.

The event is part of national Fire Prevention Week, which runs from Oct. 9-15. This year’s theme is “Protect Your Family From Fire.”

Curt Ladwig, Fort McCoy fire prevention inspector, said the Oct. 12 event will include a Medlink Helicopter Display (based on availability), a vehicle extrication demonstration, hands-on fire-extinguisher training, a station tour and lunch.
Information about various fire prevention topics also will be available.

People attending also can bring their fire extinguishers from home and have them inspected to ensure they’re in good working condition, Ladwig said.

Fire drills for members of the Fort McCoy work force also will be held throughout the week. Members of the Child Development Center will visit the Fire Department Oct. 13.

For more information about the events or Fire Prevention Week, call Ladwig at 608-388-4077.
