McCoy car-seat safety check Sept. 12

The Fort McCoy Directorate of Emergency Services Police Department will hold a car-seat safety check Saturday, Sept. 12 as part of the 2009 Child Passenger Safety Week.

Car-seat safety check to be held during McCoy Day for Kids

Anyone in the Fort McCoy community who misses or cannot attend the car-seat safety check event Saturday, Sept. 12 is welcome to attend a similar event set for Saturday, Sept. 19.

The Sept. 19 program will be held from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. in the parking lot of building 905 as part of the Fort McCoy Day for Kids event.

Other activities scheduled for that day include a visit by McGruff, the crime-fighting dog, and police finger printing.

For more information about the law enforcement activities, call the Fort McCoy Police at 608-388-2266.

The check will be held from noon-4 p.m. in the Post Exchange parking lot, building 1538. Members of the Fort McCoy community are welcome to attend. Car seats are designed for youth from birth to 8-years-old.

Ensuring children are safe during motor vehicle travel is a priority for law enforcement personnel, because according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) statistics motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children ages 3 to 6 and 8 to 14. The NHTSA is promoting safety during this week to help protect children.

The NHTSA Web site at http://www.nhtsa.gov has many informational resources and tools to use to promote the day and week.

More information about the child car-seat safety program in the Fort McCoy community at Fort McCoy is available by calling 608-388-2266.
