LSS program to compete for Army award

Fort McCoy will compete for the Organizational Deployment Award in the Department of the Army (DA) annual Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Excellence Award Program (LEAP).

The intent of the program is to lead and drive change within the Army by recognizing organizations and practitioners who demonstrate excellence in building, sustaining, and employing continuous process improvement (CPI) and LSS capabilities in support of effective stewardship of Army resources.

The program also intends to provide a mechanism to share CPI/LSS innovations, best practices, and lessons learned across the Army.

The Secretary of the Army and the Army Chief of Staff approved the annual LSS award program in July 2008.
Awards are presented in three categories.

The Organizational Deployment Award recognizes LSS deployment excellence at the organizational level.

The Project Team Award recognizes the outstanding contribution and results of individual LSS project teams.

The Enterprise Level Project Sponsor Award recognizes the outstanding contribution and results performed by a Project Sponsor of an Enterprise Level Master Black Belt LSS Design, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control project.

The Fort McCoy Plans, Analysis and Integration Office (PAIO) submitted nominations for the Organization Deployment Award and the Project Team Award in June. The application consisted of general information regarding installation LSS training and certification efforts, financial benefit results, a series of five questions, and an optional additional information section.

Fort McCoy Garrison Commander Col. David E. Chesser was informed the Installation Management Command had nominated the PAIO for the Organizational Deployment Award in August.

DA is scheduled to announce the Army’s LEAP winner on or about Sept. 17.
