OSHA safety classes to be offered at

Fort McCoy

Two Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) courses that support required safety training for the Fort McCoy Installation Safety Office (ISO) and commercial firms in the surrounding communities are being offered at Fort McCoy.

Fort McCoy’s ISO and the Wisconsin Safety Council (WSC) partnered to offer OSHA 511 Standards for General Industry and OSHA 510 Standards for Construction.

By hosting this specialized training military and federal Safety Professionals will receive a discounted registration fee, and, as a bonus, the WSC also will honor the special rate for local safety specialists associated with Fort McCoy and the Fort McCoy Community, said Randy Eddy, Fort McCoy ISO Safety Manager.

Standards for General Industry will be held Sept. 27-30, while the Standards for Construction will be held Oct. 11-14 at building 6058.

Eddy said each 32-hour course is certified by OSHA through instruction provided by the WSC.

OSHA 511 Standards for General Industry covers OSHA policies, procedures, and standards for general industry, Eddy said. OSHA 510 Standards for General Construction covers OSHA policies, procedures, and standards for construction.

“The industry and construction standards courses will cover a lot of the more-frequent standard violations in which companies receive citations and fines from OSHA inspectors, such as fall protection, the use of ladders and/or scaffolding, and electrical-wiring methods and general requirements.” Eddy said.

“We were able to provide the facilities and the training support at Fort McCoy for our people as well as opening up the training to support other safety professionals in the area who would need it,” Eddy said. “This is a good example of Fort McCoy supporting the Army Community Covenant to support safety for everyone in the Fort McCoy community, including our neighboring communities, and enhance our quality of life.”

The U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center is publicizing the courses through its website https://safety.army.mil. To register, call the WSC at 608-258-3400 or visit their website http://www.wischamberfoundation.org/WCS/display.cfm?id=314. Course fees are charged.
