Shirley Glover, a Pine View recreation assistant, said summer-type items still are renting well even as the season winds down with the Labor Day weekend, which ends Monday, Sept. 7. The public is welcome to use the area. Discounts may apply for military and civilian-eligible patrons, who also can use the equipment off post.

"We have a lot of items that people are still using, such as boats and motors, the pontoons, grills, picnic pavilions and camping lots," Glover said. "The lodging areas are open year-round so we have people using the equipment for much of the year."

Military personnel undergoing demobilization at Fort McCoy check out grills to use for unit functions, she said.

Military personnel also rent fishing poles and equipment to enjoy the sport. Boats are used well into the fall.

Mini-golf facilities are available for use until it begins snowing, Glover said.

Pine View still has some special summer season events, including the Old Fashioned Country Weekend Aug. 28-30, Labor Day Weekend Sept. 4-6, and the Re-Cycle Race at 9 a.m. Sept. 26.

People attending the Aug. 28 Army Concert Tour are welcome to stop at Pine View to join in the Aug. 28-30 weekend activities. The Labor Day Weekend also will include a Rock Band Contest.

The events are open to the public, and participants do not have to stay at Pine View to participate in the activities.

In the near future, the focus will shift to the fall hunting seasons as the fall turkey and small-game seasons and then the deer-hunting seasons approach, Glover said.

Glover said the lodging/camping facilities are available for use year-round.

A project also is nearing completion to upgrade camping sites and to build a new cabin should be completed by the next summer season, Glover said. The camping sites offer amenities, including water/sewer, electricity and/or cable hook-ups.

Pam Budda, Fort McCoy Outdoor Recreation manager, said Pine View also rents Paint Ball and Laser Tag facilities, which are located near Whitetail Ridge Ski Area. The sites are open for use by the public.

"The Laser Tag site is a great military unit trainer," Budda said. "They can learn tactics, such as taking a hill."

Glover added the sites also are used by many groups, including youth from Boys and Girls Clubs.

Anyone who wants to rent these sites is requested to provide 48 hours notice, so proper supporting personnel can be provided.

Pine View also is pet friendly as long as pets are kept on a leash and are under control, Glover said. Pets must be cleaned up after and are not allowed in rental units.

Reservations can be made in advance and currently are being accepted for the 2010 season.

Additional items for rent include sport game sets (volleyball, softball and horseshoes), canopies, bicycles and helmets (helmets must be worn when riding bicycles on Fort McCoy), garden tillers, wood splitters and generators, among others.

Prices are available online at the Fort McCoy Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Web site at http://www.mccoymwr.com, by clicking on the Pine View Campground section. Discounts may apply for off-season rentals, rentals by military and authorized civilians and people holding Golden Age Passports.

Registration can be done online or by calling 800-531-4703 or 608-388-3517.
