Fort McCoy Commissary to hold
case-lot sale Sept. 17-18
|FORT LEE, Va. — Whether you’re packing your pantry for
school-day meals and munchies, or just staying “hurricane ready” until
the official season ends Nov. 30, the Defense Commissary Agency’s (DeCA)
worldwide case-lot sale in September can help you do so with savings of
up to 50 percent or more.
“Fall often brings lots of big expenses for back-to-school youth as well
as adults returning to college classes,” said DeCA Acting Director and
CEO Thomas E. Milks. “The September case-lot sale can help trim your
grocery budget so you’ll have more to spend on school-related
Fort McCoy will host a case-lot sale Friday, Sept. 17 and Saturday,
Sept. 18, said Steve Brown, Fort McCoy Commissary Store manager. The
hours will be 9 a.m.-6 p.m. both days.
“I suggest shopping early Friday morning for the best selection,” Brown
said. “Patrons may call 608-388-3542 for more information.”
Shoppers can choose from 330 items available for the sale this year, and
store staffs will decide which items they will feature in their sales.
They also supplement these items with local direct-store-delivery items
such as soda, chips and baked goods, said Charlie Dowlen, DeCA
Selections range from canned goods, beverages, paper products, cleaning
and laundry products, and pet supplies to produce, fresh meat and
seafood, and bakery products. Club pack items also are used extensively
in this sale and include plenty of items that fit the bill for
back-to-school eating “on the go,” as well as products useful for
hurricane and tornado preparedness: food and beverages that don’t
require refrigeration, flashlights, lanterns and emergency candles.
“Case-lot sales provide a great opportunity to stock up at savings
beyond our normal 30 percent or more,” said Dowlen. “More than half of
the items are sold in ‘club pack’ product packages similar to the
oversized packages or multiple products bundled together that are found
at commercial warehouse club outlets.”
DeCA’s worldwide case lot sales mainly take place in May and September
of each year. Dowlen said this year’s May event broke previous sales
records, showing that savvy commissary shoppers take full advantage of
the unbeatable savings offered at case lot sales.
Most commissaries participate but schedule their case lot sales on
different weekends throughout September. However, some store sales dates
can occur as early as August and as late as October. Patrons are
encouraged to check the schedule for their local store’s sale dates by
going to the special case lot sale Web page at:
http://www.commissaries.com/case_lot_sale.cfm. In addition to Fort
McCoy, other case-lot sales in the Midwest include Fort Leonard Wood,
Mo., Sept. 3-4 and Great Lakes Naval Station, Ill., and Fort
Leavenworth, Kan., both Sept. 17-19.
