Paving projects

Paving is under way on South 11th Avenue at Fort McCoy. Mathy Construction of Onalaska is doing the work. The paving is part of a number of projects being done at the installation this summer.

Garrison Commander’s Call at McCoy’s Sept. 7  [ back to top ]
A Garrison Commander’s Call will be held Wednesday, Sept. 7 from 4-6:30 p.m. at McCoy’s, building 1571. The event is open to all tenants and directorates, military ranks and civilians.

The event provides an opportunity for members of the Fort McCoy community and Garrison Command Group to come together in an atmosphere of camaraderie, good fellowship, and social rapport. It allows time for members to network, share issues, or to get acquainted with other associates at Fort McCoy.


ACS September workshops to feature interviewing [ back to top ]

The Fort McCoy Army Community Service (ACS) Spouse Employment Program will offer two interviewing-related workshops in September. Each workshop will be held at the ACS Center, building 2111, from 8:30-11:30 a.m.

The Employment Interviewing Workshop is Thursday, Sept. 8. Participants will learn how to anticipate commonly asked questions and prepare responses, ask appropriate questions during the interview and to non-verbally communicate the qualities that employers seek. Register by Sept. 2.

The Mock Interviewing Workshop is Thursday, Sept. 15.

Participants will gain interviewing practice and feedback by interviewing with a hiring professional, viewing others interview and having the option of videotaping their own interview. Participants are asked to supply a copy of their resume prior to the workshop. Register by Sept. 9.

The workshops are open to the entire Fort McCoy community. Participation in both workshops is encouraged but not required. To register, call 608-388-3505.


Lunch & Learn classes offered in September on South Post  [ back to top ]

Army Family Team Building is offering Brown Bag Lunch & Learn classes in September at the South Post Community Center, building 6158. Classes are Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

The class schedule is:
Sept. 7 – Personal Time Management
Sept. 14 – Personal Conflict Management
Sept. 21 – Introduction to Leadership
Sept. 28 – Stress Management

Register no later than the Friday prior to each class by calling Army Community Service at 608-388-3505. Attendees must provide their own lunch.


Commemorative Area buildings open to public Sept. 9  [ back to top ]
In recognition of Patriot Day, the Fort McCoy Commemorative Area will be open to the public from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9.

The park-like setting of Fort McCoy’s Commemorative Area includes its History Center, five World War II-era buildings representative of Soldier life in the 1940s, an Equipment Park and Veterans Memorial Plaza.

Public Affairs staff will be on site to answer questions. For more information, call 608-388-2407.


MWR Golf Scramble set for Sept. 16 in Sparta  [ back to top ]
The Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Four-person Golf Scramble is Friday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. The tournament is being held at the River Run Golf Course in Sparta.

The tournament is open to the entire Fort McCoy community and their Family members. The registration fee is $15 per person plus greens and cart fees.

Door prizes, awards, and a $10,000 prize for a hole-in-one will be offered.

Registration forms and fees must be submitted to the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122, by Sept. 9.

McCoy Day for Kids event set for Sept. 17  [ back to top ]

The annual Day for Kids event at Fort McCoy is Saturday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., in building 905.

Activities include inflatables, carnival-inspired games and Family photos. A complimentary lunch will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., or while supplies last.

Building a Resource Library training Sept. 19 at ACS [ back to top ]
Building a Resource Library training will be held Sept. 19 from 8-10 a.m. at the Army Community Service Center, building 2111.

The training provides tools for attendees to better assist Soldiers and Family members with community and online resources such as MilitaryOneSource, ArmyOneSource and MyArmyBenefits websites.

After School Program registration being accepted at McCoy  [ back to top ]

Enrollment in the Fort McCoy After School Program is under way for youth in kindergarten through 12th grade.

The program is available Monday – Friday until 5:30 p.m. and from 6:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on snow- and non-school days.
After-school transportation is provided from Sparta and Tomah schools to Fort McCoy.

Youth are offered an afternoon snack and can participate in Child, Youth and School Services, Boys & Girls Club, or 4-H activities. A Power Hour Homework Room also is available.

Patriot Warrior Riders holds monthly meeting, ride  [ back to top ]

The Fort McCoy Motorcycle Mentorship Program, Patriot Warrior Riders, meets the third Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at McCoy’s, building 1571.

The group will ride to the Ground Round in Tomah, where dinner and a meeting will be held at 6 p.m.

Mentorship activities and initiatives will be discussed.

Everyone in the Fort McCoy community interested in safe motorcycling is encouraged to attend. There is no membership fee to participate.

Weather radios being issued to South Post residents  [ back to top ]
Weather radios are being issued to residents of Fort McCoy’s South Post Military Housing as part of a cooperative effort between the Directorate of Public Works Housing Office and the Fort McCoy Emergency Management Office.

The effort is part of the Mass Warning and Notification System (MWNS) initiative from the Fort McCoy Protection Working Group and Protection Executive Committee to ensure safe and resilient communities.

This action was taken to rectify an issue raised during the annual Army Family Action Plan conference and supplements the continued expansion of the installation’s MWNS capability.

While the external MWNS provides announcements for children and adults outside at South Post, these weather radios are a direct link to the National Weather Service announcements.

New suicide prevention video available  [ back to top ]

WASHINGTON (Army News Service) — A new suicide prevention awareness video just released by the Army is aimed primarily at both junior leadership and first-line supervisors, to let them know their responsibility to be the first to identify and assist those in need.

The video "Shoulder to Shoulder: Finding Strength and Hope Together" can be found online at www.preventsuicide.army.mil.
