Sgt. Frank Hefti, a training officer for the academy, said the 25 cadets were progressing well and are in training to become troopers or inspectors.

The cadets come from locations across the state.

They are part of the only recruit class for 2008 and will graduate in December.

"They are learning things like professional communications and report writing," Hefti said "They also will take law classes, including constitutional law and traffic law."

The cadets will get training in a number of areas in the upcoming months. Some of the topics covered will be emergency medical services, domestic and sexual assault, diversity, physical fitness, sobriety and vehicle contact procedures.

The cadets will have classroom and field work, such as the training on the emergency vehicle operations course.

Graduation is set for Dec. 12.

In addition to the recruit class, the academy holds a number of classes designed for law enforcement personnel.
