Range Operations new name for Range Control

Range Operations is the new name for what had been Range Control, according to a directive from the Installation Management Command (IMCOM) commanding general.

Terry Hoff, Fort McCoy Range Officer, said the new name standardizes referral throughout IMCOM so Soldiers and others needing to use these services have one name to remember.

Range Control no longer will be used to refer to any of these services.

Range Operations at Fort McCoy will encompass the Fire Desk, Range Inspectors, and Range Scheduling sections.

Hoff said the Fire Desk operates communications for units using the range complex. So now when units call on the radio, instead of using the call sign Range Control they will use Fire Desk.

The Inspectors and Range Scheduling provide other Range Operations functions.

“All the other organizations (in the Range Management Branch) will remain the same,” Hoff said. “Customers won’t see any changes in the services we provide to them.”

For more information about these services, call 608-388-4320.
