The 300th Combat Sustainment Brigade (CSB) set up its headquarters at Contingency Operating Location Freedom at Fort McCoy July 13 as part of the Combat Support Training Exercise (CSTX).

The 300th CSB is the training audience for the CSTX. Over the course of the training, they plan to conduct sustainment operations at both COL Freedom and COL Liberty.

"As a CSB, our main mission is to provide sustainment support for any and all Soldiers within an area of operations. Some of our operations include refueling, providing food and establishing basic infrastructure," explained Maj. Steven Lone, support operations commander of the 300th CSB.

The 300th CSB is acting as the headquarters element for two other combat sustainment units that are taking part in CSTX. These units are the 377th and 394th Combat Sustainment Battalions.

"The operations being conducted here are almost exactly the same as the operations we conduct while in-theater. What we are currently doing is establishing the headquarters area for the CSB. The tents we are using for sustainment operations are known as Deployable Rapid Assembly Shelters." added Lone.

Operations conducted during this exercise are the type of training that usually takes place during a later stage of the training cycle for U.S. Army Reserve units.

"The reason why the unit participated in this exercise is because the unit that was supposed to be participating was recently deployed, " said Sgt. Maj. Chad Brown, the support operations sergeant major for the 300th CSB.

"The training taking place during this CSTX is great. It allows us, as a relatively new unit, to put into practice our job skills effectively in a real world setting," added Brown.
