Road work

Water pipes are being replaced along South 11th Avenue. Alliance Steel of Superior, Wis., has the general contract. Subcontractors include Gerke Excavating of Tomah. Mathy Construction of Onalaska will pave the road after the work is completed. The work is part of a busy summer of construction at Fort McCoy.

GSA vehicles can use pay at pump option  [ back to top ]
FORT MCCOY, Wis. (Army & Air Force Exchange Service Public Affairs) — Drivers with General Services Administration fleet vehicles on Fort McCoy now will find it much quicker to fuel up at the Express as the Army & Air Force Exchange Service has begun accepting the Wright Express fleet card at the pump.

Previously, drivers using the Wright Express card had to go into the Express to pay.

FORT MCCOY, Wis. (Army & Air Force Exchange Service) — In honor of War Department-issued General Order 46 creating an Exchange at every post, the Fort McCoy Exchange, along with other exchanges, is marking the occasion by offering 16-cents off per gallon of gas July 25-27 when patrons use their Military StarŪ Card or Military StarŪ Rewards Card.

The 16-cent a gallon discount is above and beyond the everyday 5-cents a gallon savings Military StarŪ cardholders enjoy when filling up at the Fort McCoy Express.

The promotion is just the latest example of how the Exchange “pumps up” the discount even more during holidays and other special occasions.


181st change of command set for July 28  [ back to top ]

The 181st Infantry Brigade will host a change-of-command ceremony at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 28 at Fort McCoy. The ceremony will be held at Parade Field No. 1. The inclement weather site is the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

The event is open to members of the Fort McCoy community.

Col. Eric J. Angeli will take command from Col. Michael A. Todd.

Maj. Gen. Charles A. Anderson, commander of Headquarters, Division West, First Army, will be the host commander and will preside over the change of command.

Units affected by the change of command are the 1st, 338th; the 1st, 340th; the 3rd, 335th; the 3rd, 340th; and the 2nd, 411th Training Support Battalions.

Garrison Commander’s Call set for Wednesday, Aug. 3  [ back to top ]
The next Garrison Commander’s Call is Wednesday, Aug. 3. The Garrison Commander’s Call is held the first Wednesday of each month from 4:30-6 p.m. at McCoy’s, building 1571. The event is open to all tenants and directorates, military ranks and civilians.

The event provides an opportunity for members of the Fort McCoy community and Garrison Command Group to come together in an atmosphere of camaraderie, good fellowship, and social rapport. It allows time for members to network, share issues, or to get acquainted with other associates at Fort McCoy.


Sponsorship training to be held Aug. 9 at Army Community Service   [ back to top ]
Sponsorship training will be held Tuesday, Aug. 9 from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Army Community Service (ACS) Center, building 2111.

Sponsorship is a commander’s program that assists Soldiers, civilian employees and Families during the reassignment process, assists Families who are geographically separated from their sponsor for duty requirements, and, improves unit or organizational cohesion and readiness.

Training topics include regulations and forms, program entitlements, types of sponsorship, sponsor responsibilities, commander responsibilities and e-sponsorship.

AFAP issues, volunteer nominations due by Aug. 12  [ back to top ]

Issue and volunteer nomination forms for the Fort McCoy fiscal year 2012 Army Family Action Plan (AFAP) Conference are due Friday, Aug. 12.

The Fort McCoy AFAP Conference will be held Oct.19-20. The AFAP program is a grass-roots process that begins at installation level and seeks input regarding quality-of-life concerns that affect the well-being of Soldiers, civilians, Family members and retirees.

Nominations for Diversity Award due Aug. 12  [ back to top ]
Nominations for the 2011 Excellence in Diversity Award are due Friday, Aug. 12.

Fort McCoy employees who contribute to diversity by improving the status of women, minorities or individuals with disabilities through their career field, personal life, or community activities can be nominated for the award. Past award recipients and Equal Employment Opportunity employees are not eligible.

Nomination forms are available on the Fort McCoy Corporate Network.

The winner will be announced at the Women’s Equality Day Luncheon Thursday, Aug. 25 at McCoy’s, building 1571. The event begins at 11:30 a.m.

Rear Detachment, FRG training set for Aug. 15-16  [ back to top ]

Rear Detachment Commander and Family Readiness Group (FRG) training is scheduled for Aug. 15-16 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Army Community Service (ACS) Center, building 2111.

Topics include ACS overview, volunteer management, the roles and responsibilities of the rear detachment commander and FRG leader, Army Family Team Building, working with Families, overview of Army Regulation 608-1/Appendix J “Family Readiness Group Operations,” supporting the unit when a casualty occurs, TRICARE and legal overview, building a resource library, working with a Family Support Network, and real-life scenarios. Resumix Builder workshop set for Aug. 23 at ACS  [ back to top ]

A Resumix Builder workshop will be held Tuesday, Aug. 23 from 1-3:30 p.m. at the Army Community Service Center, building 2111.

The workshop will assist those seeking Department of the Army employment with finding position descriptions for job announcements, avoiding common fatal mistakes, filling out the supplemental data section and getting status credit, inputting personal information without disqualifying the application, Resumix resume content and reading job announcements and identifying key job criteria in the announcements.

Patriot Warrior Riders hold monthly meeting, ride  [ back to top ]
The Fort McCoy Motorcycle Mentorship Program, Patriot Warrior Riders, meets the third Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at McCoy’s, building 1571. The group will ride to the Ground Round in Tomah, where dinner and a meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Mentorship activities and initiatives will be discussed.

Everyone in the Fort McCoy community interested in safe motorcycling is encouraged to attend. There is no membership fee to participate.

Commemorative Area to be open Sept. 9  [ back to top ]
In recognition of Patriot Day, the Fort McCoy Commemorative Area will be open to the public from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9.

The park-like setting of Fort McCoy’s Commemorative Area includes its History Center, five World War II-era buildings representative of Soldier life in the 1940s, an Equipment Park and Veterans Memorial Plaza.
