Vehicle recovery

Soldiers in a Vehicle Recovery course offered by Regional Training Site-Maintenance train on the correct procedures to extricate a 977 Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck from the wet conditions at the Vehicle Recovery site at Fort McCoy.

NASCAR Night activities set for July 14 at McCoy’s  [ back to top ]
NASCAR Night is Thursday, July 14 at 6 p.m. at McCoy’s, building 1571.

The event will feature a tire-changing contest, tricycle races, and car and driver displays. Grill-your-own steak and beverage specials also will be offered.

Food and beverage specials, contests and race car displays will be featured. Authorized patrons also can enter to win a La Crosse Speedway Family package. No federal endorsement is implied.

Softball tournament set for July 16 at Constitution Park  [ back to top ]

A softball tournament is scheduled for Saturday, July 16 at 10 a.m. at Constitution Park Softball Field.

Teams will consist of 10-person lineups and 13-person rosters.

A minimum of four teams is needed to hold the tournament, with a maximum of eight teams. Players must be at least 18 years old and be eligible fitness center patrons.

Teams can register at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122 or online through WebTrac at https://webtrac.mwr.army.mil/webtrac/mccoyrectrac.html. Teams must register by Friday, July 15.

July 23 car show at Pine View open to the public  [ back to top ]

The Fort McCoy Morale, Welfare and Recreation Car Show is Saturday, July 23 from 1-4 p.m. at Pine View Campground. The free event is open to the public.

Anyone with a classic or interesting car, truck or motorcycle can register for the show. First- and second-place prizes will be awarded in each category.

Registration forms are available at www.mccoymwr.com. Completed forms can be dropped off at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

Registration also will be available from 11 a.m.-noon the day of the show, however, pre-registration is encouraged.

Tournaments to be held throughout July at CAC  [ back to top ]
A variety of tournaments will be held at the Community Activity Center (CAC), building 2000, in July.

Ping-pong, bean-bag, horseshoe, sand-volleyball and shuffleboard tournaments are scheduled. For dates, times and details visit the website www.mccoymwr.com or call the CAC at 608-388-3213.

Poker League games also will be played each Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

All tournaments are open to authorized patrons of the CAC; anyone younger than 18 requires adult supervision. Participants must register at the CAC front desk. Prizes may be awarded.

 

Dueling Pianos performance July 29 at McCoy’s  [ back to top ]
Dueling Pianos will perform at McCoy’s, building 1571 Friday, July 29 at 8:30 p.m.

The all-request, sing- and clap-along, rock ‘n’ roll, comedy show will feature high-energy piano-playing entertainers who make the audience part of the show.

The show is free and open to the entire Fort McCoy community.

Relationship Skills workshop set for Aug. 2 at ACS  [ back to top ]

The Army Family Team Building program is offering Relationship Enhancement Skills workshop Tuesday, Aug. 2 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Army Community Service Center, building 2111.

Topics include enhancing personal relationships, exploring personality traits, communication, and personal-conflict management.

Patriot Warrior Riders hold monthly meeting, ride  [ back to top ]
The Fort McCoy Motorcycle Mentorship Program, Patriot Warrior Riders, meets the third Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at McCoy’s, building 1571. The group will ride to the Ground Round in Tomah, where dinner and a meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Mentorship activities and initiatives will be discussed.

Everyone in the Fort McCoy community interested in safe motorcycling is encouraged to attend. There is no membership fee to participate.

Sponsorship training to be held at ACS Aug. 9  [ back to top ]
Sponsorship training will be held Tuesday, Aug. 9 from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Army Community Service (ACS) Center, building 2111 at Fort McCoy.

Sponsorship is a commander’s program that assists Soldiers, civilian employees and Families during the reassignment process, assists Families who are geographically separated from their sponsor for duty requirements, and, improves unit or organizational cohesion and readiness.

Training topics include regulations and forms, program entitlements, types of sponsorship, sponsor responsibilities, commander responsibilities and e-sponsorship.

Nominations for Diversity Award accepted through Aug. 12  [ back to top ]

Nominations for the 2011 Excellence in Diversity Award are due Friday, Aug. 12.

Fort McCoy employees who contribute to diversity by improving the status of women, minorities or individuals with disabilities through their career field, personal life, or community activities can be nominated for the award. Past award recipients and Equal Employment Opportunity employees are not eligible.

AFAP issues, volunteer nominations due by Aug. 12  [ back to top ]

Fort McCoy fiscal year 2012 Army Family Action Plan (AFAP) Conference will be accepted through Friday, Aug. 12.

The Fort McCoy AFAP Conference will be held Oct.19-20.

The AFAP program is a grass-roots process that begins at installation level and seeks input regarding quality-of-life concerns that affect the well-being of Soldiers, civilians, Family members and retirees.

Petraeus confirmed as CIA director  [ back to top ]
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Senate June 30 confirmed Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, currently the commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, as the next director of the CIA.

Petraeus will retire from the Army Aug. 31 and assume his new duties as central intelligence director Sept. 6.
