Asian-Pacific American Heritage

Humphrey to be new garrison deputy commander  [ back to top ]

Lt. Col. Rob Humphrey will assume his new duties as the garrison deputy commander June 18.

Humphrey comes to Fort McCoy from his position as the chief of Army Officer Policy at the Pentagon. He has prior knowledge of the installation as a Troop Program Unit commander of various reserve-component units that trained at Fort McCoy in the 1990s.

Humphrey has served in the Army for 28 years.

Army birthday observance set for June 11 at McCoy   [ back to top ]

Fort McCoy will observe the Army’s birthday with events Friday, June 11.

Activities begin at 7 a.m. with a Commander’s Run at the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122. A drive-through breakfast, including free donuts or breakfast bar, coffee and juice, and free T-shirts (while supplies last) will be offered at McCoy’s, building 1571, from 7 a.m. – 9 a.m.

A free lunch will be available at Constitution Park from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. with an official cake-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m.
Other offerings will be free automatic car washes at the MWR car wash from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and free bowling at McCoy’s from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Events and specials are open to the entire Fort McCoy community.

Free concert admission vouchers available for servicemembers  [ back to top ]

Active-duty servicemembers from any branch of service, including Reserve and Guard, are eligible for a free admission voucher for the Aug. 7 Army Concert Tour event at Fort McCoy. The concert features Sammy Hagar and the Wabos and Creed.

Vouchers are available at the Fort McCoy Community Center, building 2000, through June 17. The facility is open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. daily.

Servicemembers also can purchase additional tickets to the event for $30 through June 17. After June 17, tickets are $30 during the June 18 kickoff event, $40 for advanced and $45 day of the show Aug. 7, if available.

Army Concert Tour kickoff sale set for June 18 at various locations    [ back to top ]

The ticket kickoff sale for the Aug. 7 Army Concert Tour event at Fort McCoy is Friday, June 18 at various on- and off-post locations, and via the Internet and concert hotline.

Tickets are $30 June 18 only for the concert featuring Sammy Hagar and the Wabos and Creed. After the ticket kickoff event, tickets will be $40 in advance and $45 the day of the concert, if available.

Sand Volleyball Tournament June 25 at CAC facility  [ back to top ]

A Sand Volleyball Tournament will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 25 at the Community Activity Center (CAC), building 2000, at Fort McCoy.

Participation is open to authorized patrons.

Paintball Tournament set for June 27 at Tactics Paintball Field    [ back to top ]

A paintball tournament will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 27 at the Fort McCoy Tactics Paintball and Laser Tag Field.

Five-person teams will compete in the double-elimination tournament. The registration fee is $30 per team.

Members of the first-place team win a Tippmann 98 Customs Paintball Gun.

Random Acts of Kindness offered through Family Focus   [ back to top ]

During June, Fort McCoy Family Focus Families can stop at Army Community Service (ACS) Center, 2111 South 8th Ave., to pick up a Random Acts of Kindness idea book and record sheet.
Families then record their own random acts of kindness for any two-week period of the month. Completed record sheets must be returned to ACS by 4 p.m. Friday, July 9.

Each Family Focus Family member who turns in a record sheet receives 50 Family Focus Franks.

Freedom run set for July 3 at Pine View Recreation Area   [ back to top ]

A Freedom Fun Run will be held Sunday, July 3 at the Fort McCoy Pine View Campground.

Events will include a 5K run or walk. The event is open to the public.

Entry fees are $7 military and $10 civilian/public. Participants who register before June 15 will receive a free T-shirt.

Army Family Action Plan issues, volunteers sought by Aug. 13  [ back to top ]
Issue and volunteer nominations for the Fort McCoy Fiscal Year 11 Army Family Action Plan (AFAP) Conference will be accepted through Friday, Aug. 13.

The AFAP Conference will be held Oct. 20-21 at building 905 at Fort McCoy.

The AFAP is a grass-roots program that begins at installation level and seeks input regarding quality-of-life concerns that affect the well-being of Soldiers, civilians, Family members and retirees.

Anyone in the Fort McCoy community wishing to submit an issue or volunteer to be part of the conference may do so by going to the Army Community Service (ACS) Academy at the Web site http://www.mccoymwr.com/ACS/AFAP.htm or by calling the ACS AFAP program manager at 608-388-3540.


Community Activity Center showing movies Fridays, Saturdays   [ back to top ]
Free movies are shown at 6:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays at the Fort McCoy Community Activity Center, building 2000. Authorized personnel are welcome to attend. Free popcorn is available.

The schedule through June 26 is:
June 11, The Last Song (PG); June 12, Clash of the Titans (PG-13); June 18, Green Zone (R); June 19, Date Night (PG-13); June 25, The Losers (PG 13); and June 26: Death at a Funeral (R).

Movies can be rented at Community Activity Center   [ back to top ]
Authorized patrons can rent a movie Friday at the Fort McCoy Community Activity Center, building 2000, and keep it until the following Monday.

Poker tournaments held Thursdays at building 2000   [ back to top ]
A poker tournament is held at 6:30 p.m. each Thursday at the Community Activity Center, building 2000.

Pre-registration is required by 6:15 p.m. Competitors must be authorized patrons. Each night is a separate competition.
Prizes will be awarded for first place.

Financial Readiness training offered at Army Community Service   [ back to top ]
Financial Readiness training is available at Fort McCoy by individual appointment or can be scheduled for group/unit training.
