Health Benefits Office/TRICARE

(Editor’s note: “SPOTLIGHT” is a continuing series about tenant activities and missions at Fort McCoy.)

What is it?
The Health Benefits Office/TRICARE at Fort McCoy has a Beneficiary Counseling and Assistance Coordinator (BCAC) who is a liaison between beneficiaries and the medical contractors that provide services. The BCAC helps educate personnel about benefits and helps solve problems personnel may have in receiving their benefits.

The office also is a checkpoint for beneficiaries who have a permanent change of station to Fort McCoy. The BCAC helps to ensure their enrollment is transferred and answers any questions the beneficiaries may have.

The office is aligned with the Ireland Army Hospital at Fort Knox, Ky.

What have they done?
The Health Benefits Office/TRICARE at Fort McCoy serves TRICARE beneficiaries including active-duty, Active Guard/Reserve, and retired servicemembers and their Families, surviving spouses and some former spouses.

Reserve-component members who need assistance with line-of-duty care — injury, illness or disease incurred or aggravated in the line of duty — should be assisted through their unit’s medical representative. However, the Health Benefits Office at Fort McCoy can serve as back up support for these cases.

The BCAC also can educate eligible members about TRICARE benefits. Units that would like a benefits briefing can contact the office to schedule a briefing.

What do they have planned?
The Health Benefits Office/TRICARE at Fort McCoy recently relocated to the Fort McCoy Health Clinic, building 2669. The office will continue to offer services from Fort McCoy and does not anticipate any upcoming changes.

Why are they important?
Insurance is a very important aspect in obtaining care. The Health Benefits Office/TRICARE at Fort McCoy educates personnel on the health benefits available to them and helps ensure those benefits are fully utilized.

The Health Benefits Office/TRICARE at Fort McCoy can provide beneficiaries with face-to-face interaction with a BCAC.
Often times this interaction can be easier and more efficient in the long run. The BCAC also can establish relationships with regular customers and better understand their needs.
