These competitions give special recognition to First Army Soldiers who demonstrate outstanding military performance, leadership and achievement in their daily duties.

Soldiers compete in numerous events designed to test their physical and mental skills.

The competitions encompass events such as land navigation, weapons qualification, warrior training tasks, individual essay, an interview with the battalion sergeant major and the Army physical fitness test.

“We have a lot of great Soldiers in this brigade, and the NCO/SOY competitions are volunteer activities in conjunction with our daily brigade tasking and training requirements,” Confer said.

Silbaugh expressed excitement to compete in the competition, but echoed Confer’s remarks, by saying, “The competition is hard and requires a balance with my job.”
