Nonemergency legal help handled by appointments  [ back to top ]

      Effective immediately, all nonemergency legal assistance clients at Fort McCoy will be seen by appointment. 

      Appointments may be made by calling the Installation Legal Office (ILO) at (608) 388-2165. 

      Most current members of the uniformed services will report for their appointments at the Soldier Readiness Center (SRC), building 2643. Eligible retirees and family members usually will  be scheduled for an appointment at the ILO, building 1644. 

      Individuals who believe they may require immediate emergency assistance should inform the representative when calling. 

      Notary services will continue to be provided on a walk-in basis at both locations.  Personnel should call ahead to ensure notary availability. 

      Members of the uniformed services participating in mobilization processing through the SRC will continue to receive services through the SRC legal office.

Rear Detachment training May 28-29 at ACS   [ back to top ]

      Fort McCoy Rear Detachment Commander Training will be held Wednesday, May 28-Thursday, May 29 at Army Community Service (ACS), 2111 South 8th Avenue.

      The training will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. The training is open to anyone interested in Family Readiness.  Topics include Operational Security, TRI-CARE, Legal, Finance, Working with Families, Trauma in the Unit, Battle Mind Training for Families, Army Community Service, Building a Resource Library, Casualty Notification, and the Rear Detachment Commander handbook overview.

State EEOC to speak at Fort McCoy June 5  [ back to top ]

      The program manager of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Milwaukee Area Office, will present an informational session at Fort McCoy Thursday, June 5.

      Maria Flores will speak at 9 a.m. at Dailey Hall at the Wisconsin Military Academy 90 South 10th Ave.

      The session is expected to last about an hour. Civilian and military personnel in the Fort McCoy work force are welcome to attend.

      Flores will provide a general overview of Equal Employment Opportunity and will then offer more in-depth information regarding disability law and reasonable accommodations.

      Flores served as the first bilingual/Spanish-speaking investigator at the EEOC's Milwaukee District Office, where she specialized in investigating high-profile class action cases prior to becoming an EEOC program manager.

Free fishing weekend set for June 7-8  [ back to top ]

      Fort McCoy will participate in the free state fishing weekend Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8.

      Anglers can fish in Fort McCoy waters during this time without state licenses or Fort McCoy permits, but must follow all Fort McCoy and applicable state rules and regulations.

      Personnel who fish at Fort McCoy at any other time during the state inland fishing season must have the appropriate licenses/permits.

Army Birthday/Flag Day activities to be June 13    [ back to top ]

      The Fort McCoy Directorate of Human Resources/Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation will offer a number of special events Friday, June 13, including a cake-cutting ceremony to observe the Army Birthday/Flag Day, which is June 14.

      The events will begin with a Drive-Through Breakfast from 7-9 a.m. (while supplies last) at McCoy's, building 1571. Authorized personnel also will receive free T-shirts that support deployed troops.

      Members of the installation's Child and Youth Services program will hold their annual Army Birthday parade in the 1700 block, beginning at 10 a.m.

      Two free events will begin at 10 a.m. for authorized patrons.

      The MWR Car Wash, building 1568, will offer free automatic car washes from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

       McCoy's Bowling Center will offer free bowling from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

      The official cake-cutting ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at Constitution Park. A free lunch will be served (while supplies last) following the ceremony.

U.S. Army Soldier Show performance June 15  [ back to top ]

      The U.S. Army Soldier Show will perform at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 15 at the Fort McCoy Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

      Fourteen Soldiers will put on a high-energy, family friendly show that is free and open to the public.

      Doors open one hour before the performance, and seating is done on a first-come, first-served basis.

      Members of the Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program will sell snacks/refreshment at the event.

CIF plans closure for semiannual inventory    [ back to top ]
      The Fort McCoy Central Issue Facility (CIF), building 2142, will be closed June 23-27.

      The purpose of the closure is to conduct a 100 percent semiannual inventory as mandated by Army Regulation.

       All requests for CIF transactions during this period will be approved through the CIF Property Book Officer, Thomas Lovgren, at (608) 388-5275 or at cell phone (608) 630-5595.


McCoy offers sexual assault prevention class   [ back to top ]

      The Fort McCoy Family Advocacy and Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Program briefing is held the fourth Wednesday of each  month at Army Community Service (ACS), 2111 South 8th Ave.

      New commanders and senior NCOs are required to receive the briefing within 45 days of command, according to Army Regulations 608-18 and 600-20, Chapter 8. The briefings will run from 10 a.m.-noon, with the next sessions scheduled for May 28 and June 25.

      Personnel wishing to register must contact ACS no later than the Monday prior to the training date in a given month by calling (608) 388-3505.


Commissary scholarship winners announced   [ back to top ]

      The Fort McCoy Commissary had seven scholarship winners in the recent 2008 Scholarships for Military Children competition.

      Each of the recipients will receive a $1,500 scholarship to be used for post secondary education during the 2008-2009 school year. The recipients will be recognized during a ceremony at a later date.

      The Fort McCoy recipients are: Mallory A. Heckman from Tomah, Wis.; Angeline B. Klemm from Westboro, Wis.; Kyle R. Leistikow from Janesville, Wis.; Michael G. Schultz from New Berlin, Wis.; Benjamin R. Skifton from Nekoosa, Wis.; Chelsea E. Smith from Eagan, Minn.; and Lydia B. Soderlund from Wausau, Wis.

Photo book celebrating 100th anniversary on sale  [ back to top ]

      A book dedicated to the 100th year anniversary of Fort McCoy, which will be celebrated in 2009, now is on sale at the Public Affairs Office (PAO), building 100.

      The book contains more than 200 photos, including some that have never been seen publicly, that depict Fort McCoy's mission in the military's service to America.

      The book costs $20, and all profits will go to the Morale, Welfare and Recreation/History Center fund.

Army Concert Tour performance to include Alice Cooper  [ back to top ]

      The Army Concert Tour has announced Alice Cooper will join the Scorpions as co-headliners at a Saturday, Aug. 9 performance at Fort McCoy.

      An opening act is still being sought. A ticket kickoff will be held June  27, with tickets for $30 that day only.

      Advanced tickets will cost $35, and tickets the day of the event will cost $40. Ticket sales are subject to ticket availability. Other ticket pricing and more information will follow as soon as it's determined.
