Pine View to begin summer season May 22  [ back to top ]

Pine View Recreation Area will ramp up its summer season activities at Fort McCoy beginning with the Memorial Day weekend Friday, May 22 through Monday, May 25.

The Pine View campground/equipment checkout facility, building 8053, will have summer hours 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays through Thursdays and 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Fridays, effective May 22.

The Pine View swimming beach will be open 11 a.m.-7 p.m. daily from May 22 through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7.

The Camp Store also will be open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 9 a.m. -11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays from May 22 through Sept. 7.

A number of special theme weekends are planned throughout the summer, beginning with the Memorial Day Jamboree Weekend May 22-25. For more information, visit the Web site http://www.mccoymwr.com/Facilities/pvsummer.htm.

Pine View also offers a number of summer activities, including mini-golf, canoes and paddleboats, volleyball/basketball/horseshoes or the Tactics Paintball and Laser Tag, which is located at Whitetail Ridge Ski Area.

A number of seasonal items can be rented from the Equipment Check-Out Center.

Soldier Show to be at McCoy May 30   [ back to top ]

The U.S. Army Soldier Show will perform at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 30 at the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122, at Fort McCoy. Admission is free.

Doors will open one hour before the performance begins. The event is open to the public, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Commissary to hold case-lot sales  [ back to top ]

The Fort McCoy Commissary, building 1537, will coordinate two case-lot sales in May and June. The sales are open only to authorized military patrons.

Fort McCoy will host a case-lot sale Friday, May 29-Saturday, May 30.

Hours will be 9 a.m.-6 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. Items will be selected and paid for at the Commissary and picked up at building 2789.

Another case-lot sale for authorized military personnel will be held from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, June 7 in Minneapolis.

Western Technical to have reps here June 2    [ back to top ]

TOMAH, Wis. — Instructors from several Western Technical College courses will be at Fort McCoy on Tuesday, June 2.

The representatives will have a booth in the hallway of the ARRTC building 50 from 3-6:30 p.m. to answer questions about the Supervisory Management, Accounting, Business Management, and Criminal Justice programs. The programs are offered at both the Tomah and Sparta training facilities.

Free fishing weekend set for June 6-7  [ back to top ]

Fort McCoy will follow the Wisconsin "Free Fishing Weekend" Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7 for installation waters as described in the Fort McCoy Fishing Regulation, said John Noble, installation Fisheries Biologist.

The weekend is an ideal opportunity for anglers to try their luck in Fort McCoy waters. All regulations and any bag limits will be in effect for this weekend.

Youth Summer Camp to begin June 8    [ back to top ]

The Fort McCoy Child, Youth & School Services (CYSS) program is accepting registrations for its 2009 Summer Camp, which will begin Monday, June 8.

Youths in the Fort McCoy community who have completed kindergarten to grade 12 and are eligible to participate in the CYSS program can fill out applications.

CYSS Summer Camp offers 4-H, Boys and Girls Club of America, Character Counts! and Army programs.

The program covers areas of art, technology, science, sports, fitness, life skills, leadership and education.

Swimming sessions and field trips also are offered weekly. Other available sports/recreational activities are swimming lessons, T-ball, basketball camp, soccer camp, tennis clinics and more.

Cruise event set for June 10 at CAC   [ back to top ]

The Fort McCoy Information, Ticketing and Registration (ITR) Office will host cruise informational events Wednesday, June 10. The ITR is located in the Community Activity Center (CAC), building 2000.

Authorized personnel can attend a cruise informational event from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. or 4-6 p.m.

ITR personnel will give a presentation about how to save money and how to make a cruise more enjoyable than a traditional land vacation.

Prayer luncheon set for June 10   [ back to top ]

The bishop of the La Crosse, Wis., Diocese will be the guest speaker at a prayer luncheon 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, June 10 at McCoy’s, building 1571.

Bishop Jerome Listecki will help honor the 100th anniversary of the chaplain assistant’s military occupational specialty and the 100th anniversary of Fort McCoy, said Garrison Chaplain (Col.) Steven Colwell.

Listecki is familiar with Fort McCoy as he served as a chaplain in the Army Reserve and also presided over Catholic Masses at the installation during his service. He was installed as the bishop in La Crosse March 1, 2005.

Job Search workshop set for June 18 at ACS  [ back to top ]

The Fort McCoy Army Community Service (ACS) Spouse Employment Program is sponsoring a Job Search Workshop Thursday, June 18, from 9 a.m.-noon at 2111 South 8th Avenue, Fort McCoy.

The workshop is open to everyone in the Fort McCoy community.

Personnel attending the workshop will learn how to land those great positions that are never advertised.

The workshop will look to increase the effectiveness of your job search and tap into the "hidden job" market.

Volunteers sought for Aug. 28 concert  [ back to top ]

Volunteers are needed for the 2009 Army Concert Tour event at Fort McCoy Friday, Aug. 28.

For their support, volunteers will receive a concert volunteer T-shirt and an invitation to the Volunteer Recognition Night Thursday, Sept. 3 at McCoy’s, where they will receive a meal, beverages and a free concert.

All proceeds from the concert will benefit Soldiers, Fort McCoy employees and the installation community.
