Founder's Day event set for June 12

Military and federal civilian personnel in the Fort McCoy work force are welcome to attend the Fort McCoy Founder’s Day event from 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, June 12 at Constitution Park to celebrate Fort McCoy’s 100th anniversary.

Civilians, except those deemed key and essential for mission support, and military personnel, consistent with their ongoing mission support requirements that day, will be dismissed to attend the event. Personnel may choose not to attend the event, but must remain at their assigned duty/work station until the end of their work day.

The event is intended to be an organizational day type event, which means that family members, contractor employees, guests and members of the public are not invited to attend.

The event will begin with a serving line open from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., consisting of picnic-style food items, desserts and beverages. All food and beverages will be provided free with the cost paid for through the Fort McCoy Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) commercial sponsorship program.

Disc jockey "Nightlife" will play a variety of country and classic rock music from 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

Recreational activities will run from 1:30-4 p.m. Organized group competitions will include a tug-of-war, three-legged race and obstacle course. Other events will include bingo, ladder golf, beanbag games and card games.

The Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program will sell bottled water and sodas from 2-4 p.m.

Support facilities will be included on site, such as tents in case of inclement weather. The event will be held as scheduled rain or shine.

Information about the event will be included in flyers that will be distributed in early June. For more information in the Fort McCoy community, call the MWR Events Line at 608-388-7400 or 877-864-4969.
