Post to commemorate centennial June 13

A Centennial Commemoration Ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 13 to honor Fort McCoy’s service to the nation and its 100th anniversary. The event is open to the public.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive on the grounds by 12:45 p.m. to allow time to park and be seated.

Guests can visit the Fort McCoy History Center, building 902, and the Commemorative Area Buildings in the 800 block from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The Equipment Park will be open throughout the day.

Speakers scheduled for the Centennial Commemoration Ceremony "Honoring Fort McCoy’s Service to Our Nation," will include Sen. Russ Feingold of Wisconsin and retired Air Force Col. Douglas McCoy.

A number of local, state and federal dignitaries also are scheduled to be on hand, including past commanders and command sergeant majors of Fort McCoy.

A cake-cutting ceremony will follow from 2:30-3 p.m.

The 484th Army Band of Milwaukee will perform musical selections before and during the ceremony.

The event will be held rain or shine. Building 905 will be the inclement weather site.

Attendees must enter through the Main Gate. Adults will need to show a photo identification to get access to the installation.
