Fort McCoy railroad conductor Jeff Severson rides the first of seven railroad flatcars being pushed by the installation’s diesel locomotive onto a spur and to a loading dock on the installation. Each flatcar carried one Heavy Equipment Transport System (HETS) tractor and semi-trailer.

The rail load came from Westborough, Mass., and, after downloading from the railcars, is being delivered to the 1158th Transportation Company, Wisconsin Army National Guard, at Black River Falls.

McIntyre received the decades-delayed distinction for his action as a radio communications specialist during his tour in Vietnam.

Some of the service that led to his honor was in the thick-brush and mountainous area of the country and in support of U.S. Army infantry operations. He works in the supply section of Lodging, in the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation.
