VA Golf Course open for season

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in Tomah has opened its "Veterans Golf Course." The nine-hole golf course is open to the public and is located on the campus of the Tomah VA.

The Veterans Golf Course is a nonprofit course.  Funds generated from public play and donations provide the means to operate and maintain the course; the golf course is not maintained with funding in the VA Medical Center's budget.

In order to keep the golf course available for hospitalized veterans to use, the facility relies on public support.

The pro shop is operated by VA volunteers.

The Veterans Golf Course is a family-friendly course, featuring nine-holes and a par-36 layout.  There is a pro shop, a pavilion with picnic tables, snacks and refreshments, and restrooms.

Tee times are available, as well as club and pull-cart rentals.

The course will be open from sun-up to sundown.

Golfers who arrive before the pro shop is open are asked to abide by the "honor system" and stop at the pro shop after their round to pay their fee.

Course fees for the general public are $9 for a nine-hole round; $10 on weekends and holidays. Senior citizens, active-duty military and students receive a special rate of $7 on both weekdays and weekends for nine holes.  An 18-hole round costs $16 ($17 on weekends and holidays), and the special rate for seniors, active- duty military and students is $10 (weekdays and weekends).

A preseason special is available until June 1. For $200, an individual can purchase a pass good for unlimited golf throughout the 2008 golf season.  The season pass will not be available after June 1.

A punch card also is available.  Golfers who purchase these cards golf 11 rounds for the price of  10.

Punch cards from previous seasons will be honored.

Hole sponsorships are available for the 2008 golf season.  For $250, a business, organization or individual can sponsor a hole and be recognized for doing so.

Tee times are not necessary, but if one is desired, call (608) 372-1243.

For more information about the golf course, hole sponsorships or to purchase an unlimited pass, please call VA Voluntary Services at (608) 372-1727.
