The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in Tomah has opened its
"Veterans Golf Course." The nine-hole golf course is open to
the public and is located on the campus of the Tomah VA.
The Veterans Golf Course is a nonprofit course.
Funds generated from public play and donations provide the
means to operate and maintain the course; the golf course is not
maintained with funding in the VA Medical Center's budget.
In order to keep the golf course available for hospitalized
veterans to use, the facility relies on public support.
The pro shop is operated by VA volunteers.
The Veterans Golf Course is a family-friendly course, featuring
nine-holes and a par-36 layout. There
is a pro shop, a pavilion with picnic tables, snacks and refreshments,
Tee times are available, as well as club and pull-cart rentals.
The course will be open from sun-up to sundown.
Golfers who arrive before the pro shop is open are asked to
abide by the "honor system" and stop at the pro shop after
their round to pay their fee.
Course fees for the general public are $9 for a nine-hole
round; $10 on weekends and holidays. Senior citizens, active-duty
military and students receive a special rate of $7 on both weekdays
and weekends for nine holes. An
18-hole round costs $16 ($17 on weekends and holidays), and the
special rate for seniors, active- duty military and students is $10
(weekdays and weekends).
A preseason special is available until June 1. For $200, an
individual can purchase a pass good for unlimited golf throughout the
2008 golf season. The
season pass will not be available after June 1.
A punch card also is available.
Golfers who purchase these cards golf 11 rounds for the price
Punch cards from previous seasons will be honored.
Hole sponsorships are available for the 2008 golf season.
For $250, a business, organization or individual can sponsor a
hole and be recognized for doing so.
