Pine View Recreation Area
preparing for summer season

The Pine View Recreation Area, which is open year-round, will kick off its summer season hours and recreational activities, effective Friday, May 23, during the Memorial Day weekend. The facility is open to the public.

Karla Miller of the Fort McCoy Outdoor Recreation staff said the Pine View Swimming Beach and Camp Store will begin summer hours May 23. Summer-themed weekends also will be offered throughout the Labor Day weekend, which ends Sept. 1.

Various camping opportunities and recreation sporting events will be available.

The Campground Office/Equipment Check-Out Center also will have extended operational hours.

The Swimming Beach will be open from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. daily and will have a lifeguard on duty during those times.

      The Camp Store will be open 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday.

Patrons can enjoy sporting activities, including horseshoes, volleyball, paddle boats and miniature golf on site. Various camping/lodging opportunities also are available. Miller said these will include fixed sites, such as cabins or duplexes, or more mobile lodging units such as two yurts and various-sized trailers. The mobile lodging units can be rented on post by anyone, and the trailers can be rented and used on or off post by authorized military, military retirees and Department of Defense civilian personnel.

Special-themed weekends will begin with a Memorial Day Weekend Celebration, which includes family games, kayak races, a ladder golf tournament and night golf.

Other themed weekends include a Pine View Birthday Party June 20-22, a Family Fun Day July 12 and Haunted Trails Aug. 22-24.  A complete listing of events can be found at the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Web site.

Pine View also is hosting a fishing contest, which is open to anyone with the required Wisconsin/Fort McCoy permits/licenses. Fish must be caught in installation waters, and anglers must follow all regulations.

Miller said an improvement project for the camping sites on Circle 3 also is scheduled to begin shortly. The project will include upgraded electrical and cable services to that area.

      The Campground Office/Equipment Checkout Center will be open from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Fridays, effective May 23.
