The Community Activity Center (CAC), building 2000, at Fort
McCoy has added some paint here, new window treatments there, and
improved offerings and comfort throughout to give its patrons a cozy
place to hang out at any time of the day.

generous amount of self-help work. Staff members did all of the
painting, helped hang curtains, assembled and moved furniture, etc.
"They are eager for (authorized patrons of) the Fort McCoy
community to come in and enjoy the newly renovated facilities,"

"We realized we have an old building to work with, but we
wanted to make it as comfortable as possible for Soldiers and the Fort
McCoy community," Peterson said. "We kept the things that
worked, and added new things or expanded on current offerings,
One of the major improvements was dividing the piano practice
room and the music room into two separate areas. Peterson said if
someone was taking lessons under the old setup, it took up the whole
music room area. In the new setup, someone can take music (piano)
lessons, while other people practice instruments. The CAC has drums,
saxophones, guitars, and other instruments for patron use.
In addition, the TV lounge was relocated upstairs and offers
three big screens for viewing.

The CAC is expecting new carpeting, couches and chairs for the
TV lounge. A movie room is available for viewing DVD movies on site.
The CAC has retained the Friday and Saturday movie nights at
6:30 p.m., which include free popcorn. Call (608) 388-3213 for a movie
Cardio equipment was added on the second floor for those that
want a quick workout and can't get to the Fitness Center or want the
convenience of being able to work out on their way into or leaving
work, she said.
Pfc. Samuel Vargas of the 49th Adjutant General Company of
Sacramento, Calif., said he appreciated the updates.
"I like the free use of the pool table and Ping
Pong," Vargas said. "The installation has done a good job
upgrading this building and our barracks."
Peterson said all of the activities at the CAC can be used for
free. Patrons can check out DVDs for a fee to view off site.
The CAC is waiting for a new Foosball table, a 14-foot
shuffleboard and also has six additional computers for the computer
lab on order.
The Frame Shop has been relocated to the second floor and
offers custom framing/matting and also has a variety of framed prints
