SKIESUnlimited Program to begin
this summer at CYS Services
|The Fort McCoy Child, Youth & School (CYS) Services
program will implement a new program this summer to complement, expand
and support the academic, life skills and athletic experiences of
children and youth in school and in CYS Services programs.
The new program is titled SKIESUnlimited, which is an acronym for
“School of Knowledge, Inspiration, Exploration, and Skills.”
Becky Walley, Fort McCoy Outreach Services director, said the program
has been implemented Armywide and serves children ages 6 weeks through
18 years (high school seniors). Eligible patrons include active-duty
military, appropriated fund and non-appropriated fund Department of
Defense (DoD) civilian personnel, Reservists and National Guard
personnel on active duty or during inactive-duty training, and DoD
SKIESUnlimited is comprised of four schools: School of Sports,
School of Arts, School of Life Skills and School of Academic Skills.
Walley said the program will start small at Fort McCoy. Initial classes
offered include swimming lessons (beginning with youth 4-years-old and
42-inches tall to 18-year- olds), tumbling (ages 2-5) and soccer (ages
5-7) classes. Fees may apply.
New classes will be added throughout the year, she said. Classes may be
offered based upon requests from parents/youth, if instructors can be
identified or are available.
Volunteer instructors are being actively sought. Members of the Fort
McCoy community with skills/talents they would like to share in
music/voice, art, gymnastics, life skills, sports and fitness, academic
support, etc., can call 608-388-8956 to learn about volunteer
Youth who are part of a Family with a deployed Soldier may be eligible
for up to $300 in free SKIES classes per deployment per child/youth or
up to $150 for SKIES classes per child/youth if they are part of a
Family with a Soldier in a designated support assignment. These benefits
begin 30 days before a deployment and continue to 90 days afterward.
