Motorcycle Mentorship Program to meet April 29 at McCoy’s [ back to top ]

Fort McCoy Patriot Warrior Riders, a group of motorcycle enthusiasts who support the U.S. Army Motorcycle Mentorship Program, will hold an organizational meeting at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 29 at McCoy’s, building 1571.

All interested individuals in the Fort McCoy community are welcome to attend.

The meeting is scheduled to include consideration/approval of a new charter and/or bylaws and appointment of officers as the organization transitions to a private organization status. The organization previously was affiliated with the Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program.

Arbor Day ceremony set for April 30 at Fort McCoy [ back to top ]

A ceremony in observance of National Arbor Day will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, April 30 at building 108 (behind Garrison Headquarters, building 100) at Fort McCoy. Everyone in the Fort McCoy community is welcome to attend.

Youth from the Fort McCoy Child Development Center will help the Directorate of Public Works Natural Resources Forestry Section plant pine and spruce tree seedlings.

Fort McCoy Fishing Contest to run May 1-Sept. 5  [ back to top ]

Fort McCoy’s Fishing Contest kicks off Saturday, May 1 and runs through Sunday, Sept. 5.

All fish entered in the contest must be caught in Fort McCoy waters and registered at Pine View Campground. Prizes will be awarded monthly in adult and child divisions with a grand prize for the biggest fish caught in each category throughout the contest.

There is no entry fee, and the contest is open to the public. The Pine View Recreational Area Equipment Checkout also has fishing equipment available for rent.

ACAP workshop for Soldiers scheduled May 3-6 [ back to top ]

An Army Career and Alumni Program (ACAP) workshop will be held for Soldiers from Monday, May 3 through Thursday, May 6 at Fort McCoy.

The preretirement workshop, which is designed to help military personnel transition back into the civilian world, will run from 7:30 a.m.-3:45 p.m. May 3. The Transition Assistance Program will run from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. May 4-6. Preregistration is required. No fees are charged.

The workshop is required for Soldiers who will medically retire or separate from service. Other Soldiers who have served more than 180 consecutive days of active duty and are more than 90 days before their retirement/separation transition period also are eligible to attend, said Risharda Parker, the Fort McCoy ACAP counselor.

The first day of the workshop will focus on benefits, such as survivor benefits, Social Security, educational benefits, medical (TRICARE) benefits, etc.

The remaining days of the workshop will include information about employment assistance and transitioning from a military career to a civilian career, Parker said.

Several guest speakers/presenters will present the latest information about the civilian job market.

Prayer luncheon scheduled for National Prayer Day May 6  [ back to top ]

A Prayer Luncheon in honor of the National Day of Prayer will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 6 at building 905, Fort McCoy.

The event is open to everyone in the Fort McCoy community.

The theme of the event will be a historical look at prayer in America.
A sandwich lunch will be provided for attendees.

Reservations are requested by close of business Tuesday, May 4, by calling the Fort McCoy Religious Support Office at 608-388-3528.

Information about other worship services at Fort McCoy and in the surrounding communities also is available by calling this number.

 

Spouse Appreciation Day events set at Community Activity Center   [ back to top ]

Military Spouse Appreciation day is May 8.

In celebration, military personnel and their spouses in the Fort McCoy community can register for prizes Thursday, May 6 and Friday, May 7 at the Community Activity Center, building 2000.

Prizes available in the drawing include a pair of concert tickets, Family educational gift baskets, goodie bags with coupons and a $50 gift card to Features Sports Bar and Grill. Only one entry per Family will be accepted.

McCoy’s will offer military personnel or their spouse a “Buy One Get One Free” Primo’s buffet, May 7, from 11a.m. – 1 p.m.

May 12 Wellness Fair open to McCoy community  [ back to top ]

The annual Fort McCoy Wellness Fair will be held Wednesday, May 12 from 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122. The theme is “Living Each Day in a Healthier Way.”

Events include a Red Cross Blood Drive from 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., a 5-K and 2-mile walk at 10:15 a.m., and free-throw, hot-shots and 3-point shooting competitions from 11 a.m. – noon. Area businesses also will showcase products and services from 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Attendees will have a chance to win a 32” TV, a gas grill, a P90X fitness video and much more.

Fort McCoy employees are authorized up to two hours of administrative leave to attend, subject to supervisory approval.

Central Issue Facility to be closed May 10-14 for inventory  [ back to top ]

The Fort McCoy Central Issue Facility (CIF), building 2142, will be closed Monday, May 10 through Friday, May 14 to conduct a 100 percent semiannual inventory as mandated by Army regulations.

The change from the originally announced dates of April 26-30 is due to mission requirements.

Army Concert Tour performers announced for Aug. 7 show  [ back to top ]
Fort McCoy will host an Army Concert Tour event Saturday, Aug. 7, starring rock ‘n’ roll superstars Sammy Hagar and the Wabos and Creed.

Tickets will be on sale for $30 during a ticket kickoff event June 18.
Tickets will be $40 after that day, and $45 the day of the show. The concert is open to the public.

Hagar has a long career that includes a heavy metal tour with the Van Halen group, as well as a solo career. For more information, go to the Web site http://www.redrocker.com.

Post Exchange giving 5 cents back for each recyclable bag used   [ back to top ]

The Fort McCoy Post Exchange (PX), building 1538, is rewarding military shoppers who are doing their part for the environment through its new “Use a Bag, Save the Planet” initiative.

Instead of using traditional plastic bags, the PX at Fort McCoy is encouraging shoppers to bring their own reusable bags. Beyond helping the environment, shoppers who “Use a Bag, Save the Planet” will get 5 cents back for every reusable bag used.

“The PX desires to be an environmentally responsible retailer and a ‘green’ place to shop,” said PX Store Manager Renee Davis. “By rewarding the use of environmentally-friendly bags we hope to begin changing behaviors today to put us on a path for a cleaner tomorrow.”

The 5 cents credit applies only to shoppers who bring in and use reusable shopping bags (plastic bags are not eligible) at the Fort McCoy PX. For more information about the Fort McCoy PX, call 608-388-4343 or 608-269-5574, Ext. 101.
