The facility replaces World War II-era wood buildings, said Dave Gundlach, Chief, Operations and Maintenance Division of the Directorate of Public Works at Fort McCoy.

Personnel are getting used to the new high-bay storage area, which includes a flexible partition system that allows the space to be adapted for current and future use.

Administrative offices also are located on the main floor, he said.

Kay Winkler of the Directorate of Logistics (DOL) said the initial organizations in the facility completed their moves in about mid-March.

DOL functions comprise the largest group of personnel in the facility.

Among the DOL organizations that relocated to the facility are the retail supply, property book and the classification or turn-in point personnel.

The facility also features large parking lot areas, an outdoor secure storage area, and it is located near the Troop Installation Support Branch activities. Winkler said this includes such things as building supplies and cleaning supplies.

"It’s easier for the troops to have the buildings right next to each other so they can get everything they need in one trip," Winkler said.

Among the other organizations located in the facility are the Lodging Services and the Training Support Section (TSS) equipment storage.

"We’re all happy to have one good facility replacing a number of facilities," Winkler said. "The new facility has more efficient use of space than the older facilities we were in before."

Al Brueggen, Chief of Lodging Services for Lodging, said the new facility and location is working well for his section.

"We have high-speed Internet connections that work, and we’re co-located in the building with a lot of people we work with, on a recurring basis, such as Property Book," he said.

Lodging Services also has taken advantage of the fenced-in area to store some of its equipment.

Bob Zinsmeister, Training Support Manager, said, "It’s nice to be in a new facility but we have a lot of items that need to be done that will make the warehouse more functional for our use."

The TSS has multiple integrated laser equipment system (MILES) and simulation simulators that units can check out from TSS, along with other training aids, he said.
