Army Emergency Relief campaign to be held April 15-May 15 [ back to top ]

The Fort McCoy Army Emergency Relief (AER) campaign will be held from Thursday, April 15 to Saturday, May 15.
The theme is “Helping Maintain ARMY STRONG.”

The goal of the annual AER campaign is threefold: to educate Soldiers on the existence of AER programs; to publicize procedures for receiving assistance; and to replenish AER funds to guarantee the continuity of the AER program.

In 2009, AER worldwide provided $79 million in assistance to more than 71,000 Soldiers and their Families.

In fiscal year 2009, Fort McCoy’s AER program assisted 76 Soldiers and Families with $106,737 in emergency financial assistance.

In addition to emergency assistance, AER provides undergraduate scholarships to dependent children and spouses of active-duty and retired Soldiers.

Pet vaccination clinic scheduled for April 15-16 at Fort McCoy   [ back to top ]

A pet vaccination clinic will be held from 1-7 p.m. Thursday, April 15 and 8:30 a.m.-noon Friday, April 16 at Fort McCoy.

All active-duty identification card holders, Family members (12 and older), and retirees are authorized to use this service.

The Great Lakes Veterinarians Treatment Facility is sponsoring the clinic. Fees will apply.

Workshop to explain mortgage choices for home buyers [ back to top ]

A Mortgage and Home Ownership Workshop will be held from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 20 at the Visual Information Branch, 2113 South J St. at Fort McCoy.

Home ownership will be covered by a variety of service providers. People who have made a permanent change of station move and have not been able to sell their house or are military or civilian personnel who were impacted by Base Realignment and Closure 2005 will want to attend.

Veterans who have questions about state and federal Veterans Affairs (VA) loans or how the VA can assist with home ownership can get answers to their questions. Army Wounded Warrior (AW2) Soldiers or Family members of an AW2 Soldier also can get details about the unique programs available to them.

General and specific questions about mortgages or home ownership will be answered.

Scheduled presenters include a Homeowners Assistance Program representative from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, a senior loan specialist from the Regional Department of Veterans Affairs, St. Paul, Minn., and a Fort McCoy RIA Federal Credit Union representative.

The workshop is sponsored by the Army Community Service (ACS) Financial Readiness Program.

Army Family Team Building meeting to cover financial matters    [ back to top ]

A Family Financial Training Workshop will be held from 8 a.m.-noon Wednesday, April 21 at Army Community Service Center, 2111 South 8th Ave.

Topics include: Family Financial Readiness, Basic Military Benefits and Entitlements, and Introduction to Military and Civilian Community Resources.

The training is sponsored by the Army Family Team Building program.

Foosball Tournament set for April 23 at McCoy CAC  [ back to top ]

A Foosball Tournament will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, April 23 at the Fort McCoy Community Activity Center (CAC), building 2000.

Participants must be 18 or older or supervised by a parent or guardian and be authorized patrons.

Team partners will be randomly assigned. Competition will be single elimination.

Preregistration forms are available at the CAC or can be done by 5:45 p.m. April 23.

Quartermaster store closing for upgrades, to reopen April 24    [ back to top ]

The Brigade Quartermaster Tactical Gear Store, building 1645, will be closed from Monday, April 12 through Friday, April 23.

The store will be undergoing an image upgrade to include new paint and flooring. A point-of-sale system upgrade also will be installed.

A tentative reopening date is scheduled for Saturday, April 24. Upon reopening, the store will be open seven days a week. Hours will be Monday through Friday 9 a.m. – 6 p. m. and Saturday through Sunday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Weight-lifting competition to be held April 24 at Fitness Center   [ back to top ]

A 1,000-pound weight-lifting challenge will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24 at the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

Participants, who must be authorized patrons, will choose three single lifts and achieve a total of 1,000 pounds (400 pounds for females).

The lifts can be chosen from the barbell bench press, the barbell overhead push press, the barbell bent row, the barbell deadlift and the barbell back squat.

All participants who meet their weight totals will receive a free 1000-pound club T-shirt.

Central Issue Facility to conduct inventory April 26-30   [ back to top ]

The Fort McCoy Central Issue Facility (CIF), building 2142, will be closed April 26-30 to conduct a 100 percent semiannual inventory as mandated by Army regulations.

All emergency requests for CIF support must be approved by CIF Property Book Officer Thomas Lovgren at 608-388-5275 or cell 608-630-5595.  


Care team training to assist commanders set for May 7   [ back to top ]
Care Team Training will be held from 8-10 a.m. Friday, May 7 at Army Community Service 2111 South 8th Ave.

This training will assist commands in recruiting volunteers, as well as educating current and potential volunteers on the roles and responsibility associated with belonging to a unit’s care team.

Care teams may be activated at Fort McCoy to assist commanders with a casualty or severe injury.

Registration is requested by Wednesday, May 5 by calling 608-388-3505.


Army Family Action Plan issues, volunteers being accepted   [ back to top ]
Issue and volunteer nominations for the Fort McCoy Fiscal Year 11 Army Family Action Plan (AFAP) Conference, which will be held Oct. 20-21 at building 905 at Fort McCoy, will be accepted through Friday, Aug. 13.

The AFAP is a grass roots program that begins at installation level and seeks input regarding quality-of-life concerns that affect the well-being of Soldiers, civilians, Family members and retirees.
