The Fort McCoy Commemorative Area recently was
recognized with a Department of the Army (DA) Award of Excellence in the
2009 Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware Public Affairs Communications Competition.
The Commemorative Area was cited as an on-going Community Relations
outreach activity that fulfills the objectives of the Army Public
In the Community Relations Program Award Category, the
Fort McCoy Commemorative Area took third place. The Benelux World War II
Commemorative Community Program, U.S. Army Garrison-Benelux Public
Affairs took first place and the Good Neighbor Program, 2nd Battalion,
2nd Aviation Regiment, Eighth U.S. Army took second place.
The Secretary of the Army sponsors this competition annually. The Office
of the Chief of Public Affairs conducts judging to reward, inspire and
recognize excellence from Soldier and civilian Public Affairs
practitioners who best represent the highest standards of the Army.
Award competition is open to all DA organizations — Active, Reserve and
National Guard — located in the U.S. as well as overseas.
