Mobilization

PT running route opens for season

The entire length of West 13th Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic from 5 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday until further notice, most likely through October, according to Fort McCoy Police Sgt. Domenic Modica.

That stretch of roadway on the west edge of the cantonment area will be used for the Mobilization PT Route as Soldiers conduct physical fitness training and testing during that time frame. The PT route was created to have a designated area for Soldiers to run safely in the early morning hours without having to worry about other distractions, particularly vehicles.

The south terminus of the route is at the intersection of West A Street and West 12th Avenue, near the Rustic Inn. The north terminus is near the northwest corner of Equipment Concentration Site- 67.

Fort McCoy police will control major cross-traffic intersections affected by the pedestrian-only street. Vehicles will be diverted onto West 12th Avenue.

Signs will be posted to alert drivers of the detour. There already are yellow signs with black lettering noting quarter-mile increments both north and south along the entire route for Soldiers to pace their distances. Runners use parking lots along the route for turnarounds.

Information is available by calling the Police Dispatch Desk at 608-388-2266 or 608-388-2044.
