Central Issue Facility closed for inventory  [ back to top ]

The Central Issue Facility (CIF), building 2142 at Fort McCoy, will be closed March 30-April 3.

The purpose is to conduct a 100 percent semiannual inventory as mandated by Army Regulations.

All emergency requests will be approved by Fort McCoy CIF Property Book Officer Thomas Lovgren by calling 608-388-7612 or cell 608-630-5595.

Course set for 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families   [ back to top ]

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families for Army Families workshop will be held Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2 at Fort McCoy Army Community Service, 2111 South 8th Ave.

Classes will run from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. both days. The workshop is designed to provide tools to help families successfully communicate and problem-solve together. Attendees will experience interactive exercises, case studies and video segments and will learn from the experience of others.

Armed Forces Day Open House May 16  [ back to top ]

The annual Armed Forces Day Open House event at Fort McCoy will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 16 and help celebrate the installation’s "Century of Service to America."

Fort McCoy’s Commemorative Area, History Center and Equipment Park in the installation’s 800-900 blocks will serve as the hub of activity for this family oriented event, which is free and open to the public.

The Commemorative Area buildings depict Soldier life in the cantonment area during the 1940s. The History Center presents chronological displays/exhibits of the installation’s history, from the installation’s conception in June 1909.

The Equipment Park has an outdoor display of more than 50 pieces of historical and present-day military equipment, representing equipment that has been used throughout Fort McCoy’s 100-year history.

Scheduled open house activities include military equipment and demonstrations, camouflage face painting and personalized dog tags, an interactive marksmanship gallery, narrated installation bus tours and refreshments for sale, and more.

Entrance to the event will be from State Highway 21 through Gate 15 (Tomah Gate) and then following the signs. All adults entering Fort McCoy may be required to show photo identification.

Case lot sale set for May 29-30 at Commissary [ back to top ]

The Fort McCoy Commissary, building 1537, will host a case-lot sale Friday, May 29-Saturday, May 30 for authorized military patrons.

Hours will be 9 a.m.-6 p.m. both Friday and Saturday.

Items will be selected and picked up at the Commissary.

Authorized military personnel also are advised there will be a case-lot sale Sunday, May 3 at the U.S. Army Reserve Center at 2929 Holmgren Way, at Green Bay, Wis. The time will be announced at a later date.

Fort McCoy BCAC receives regional award  [ back to top ]

The Fort McCoy Beneficiary Counseling and Assistance Coordinator (BCAC) has been selected as the North Atlantic Regional Medical Command Region BCAC of the Year for 2008.

Pam Redmann served as the region’s nominee for the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) BCAC of the Year. Erika Walberer-Reis of the Europe Regional Medical Command of Grafenwoehr, Germany was chosen as the AMEDD BCAC of the Year for 2008.

The nominees were chosen as those best depicting the criteria of fulfilling duty, showing respect, performing selfless service and displaying honor and integrity.

 

New 1st sergeant welcomed to HHC    [ back to top ]

A new first sergeant has reported for duty at the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, U.S. Army Garrison (HHC USAG), Fort McCoy.

1st Sgt. Steven Dryer is the new HHC USAG first sergeant and replaces 1st Sgt. Thomas Aiello.

Military Family Support meetings held Tuesdays   [ back to top ]

Military Family Support meetings are being held at various community locations the first to fourth Tuesdays of the month.

Meetings run from 6-7:30 p.m. and will be held at:

Sparta — American Legion Post 100 — on the first Tuesday of the month.

Black River Falls — National Guard Armory — the second Tuesday of the month.

Tomah — American Legion Post 201 — the third Tuesday of the month, and,

La Crosse — American Legion Post 52 — the fourth Tuesday of the month.

The meetings are for family members (including parents, adult children and siblings), and close friends of Soldiers who are preparing for deployment, who are presently deployed or who have returned from deployment.

Public Affairs Office earns 2 IMCOM awards   [ back to top ]

The Fort McCoy Public Affairs Office has received two awards in the Installation Management Command-Northeast Region Liberty Bell (Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware) journalism competition.

The awards were a second place for the Web-based publication — The Real McCoy Online, and a third place in the Special Achievement in Print Media category for the Global War on Terror booklet.

Personnel can view The Real McCoy Online by going to the Web site http://www.mccoy.army.mil and clicking on Reading Room and Installation Newspaper. The Global War on Terror booklet is available at the Public Affairs Office, building 100 and online at http://www.mccoy.army.mil/ReadingRoom/documents/GWOT_Book.pdf.

Universal tickets available to military personnel  [ back to top ]

Military personnel, including retirees, with a valid military ID are eligible for one free ticket to the Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Fla. Tickets in the Fort McCoy community can be obtained at the Information, Ticketing and Reservation Office in the Community Activity Center, building 2000.

The Universal Orlando Military Salute Program is sponsoring the program, with tickets available until June 28. The tickets expire Dec. 18.

Companion tickets for family and friends may be purchased by familial dependents with a military ID for $89. There are no limits on how many companion tickets may be purchased.
