Open Mic Night to be held March 12 at Whitetail Ridge Ski Chalet  [ back to top ]

Fort McCoy Outdoor Recreation will host a free Open Mic Night from 7-10 p.m. Friday, March 12 at the Whitetail Ridge Chalet. Participation is open to everyone, including the public.

Open Mic night is a great way to share poetry, music, or other talents with the Fort McCoy community. For those who prefer to watch and listen, the Open Mic Night offers an enjoyable evening of entertainment in a relaxing environment.

People attending the event should enter Gate 19 from State Highway 21 and follow the signs.

The Fort McCoy Whitetail Ridge Ski Area has been closed for the season.

Clocks should be set ahead one hour the night before.

Time changes also are an ideal time to check safety equipment, and change batteries in smoke alarms/fire detectors, etc. 


Pool tournament to be held Mondays at CAC facility [ back to top ]

Monday pool (pocket billiards) nights will be held, beginning at 6:30 p.m. March 15, 22 and 29 at the Fort McCoy Community Activity Center, building 2000.

The single-elimination competition is open to authorized patrons. Registration is required by 6:15 p.m. nightly.
A prize will be awarded to the nightly winner.

An eight-ball pool tournament also is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, March 26 at the Community Activity Center for authorized patrons.

DFMWR Advisory Forum to meet in building 2187 [ back to top ]

The Fort McCoy Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (DFMWR) quarterly Customer Advisory Forum will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, in building 2187. Everyone in the Fort McCoy community is welcome to attend.
The DFMWR Customer Advisory Forum reaches out to customers on a continuing basis to assess customer satisfaction, communicate relevant information, and to serve as a source of customer recommendations about how to improve the quality of the products and services DFMWR offers.

Family Focus bowling event to be held March 20 at McCoy's  [ back to top ]

Family Focus Families are welcome to come to McCoy’s, building 1571, from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, March 20 for a free game of bowling and free shoe rental.

Attendees must include a minimum of one adult and one child per Family.

Participants can bring their scorecards into Army Community Service (ACS) during business hours and receive 75 Family Focus Franks per Family.

Participants must register by calling ACS at 608-388-3505 by close of business Wednesday, March 17. Those who are not Family Focus Families can call ACS to sign-up and register for bowling. 


Family Focus Families can attend BOSS Woodshop workshops  [ back to top ]

Family Focus Woodshop workshops will be held from March through June at the Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (BOSS) Wood Shop, building 1133, at Fort McCoy.

Workshops will be held from 8 a.m.-noon March 27, April 24, May 22 and June 12. Each Family Focus child can choose between two different bird houses or a toolbox kit to complete, paint included. Plus, each child receives a real tool kit to take home.

Attendees must include at least one parent and one child per Family. Families that bring their projects or send a picture of their projects to ACS will earn 75 Family Focus Franks per Family.

Participants must call Army Community Service (ACS) at 608-388-3505 by close of business the Wednesday before a workshop to attend that workshop. Space is limited. 


Easter egg hunt to be held at Fort McCoy Saturday, April 3  [ back to top ]

An Easter egg hunt will be held at Fort McCoy Saturday, April 3. Many other activities will be included during the fun event. More details will be released soon.

The event is open to all Fort McCoy personnel and is sponsored by the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, the Defense Commissary Agency and the Fort McCoy Morale, Welfare and Recreation program. 


AFTB program presents Leadership skills Workshop  [ back to top ]
A Leadership Skills Workshop will be held from 7:30 a.m.-noon Wednesday, April 7 at Army Community Service, 2111 South 8th Ave., at Fort McCoy.

Topics include: Delegation for Leaders, Leadership Assisted Problem Solving Skills and Coaching and Mentoring.

The workshop is sponsored by the Army Family Team Building program. Registration is requested by Friday, April 2 by calling 608-388-3505.

Parent/teenager workshops to be held Saturdays April 10, 17  [ back to top ]
A workshop focusing on how teenagers manipulate their parents will be held from 10 a.m.-noon Saturdays April 10 or 17 at Army Community Service (ACS), 2111 S. 8th Ave., at Fort McCoy.

Topics will include why teenagers do what they do, anti button-pushing strategies and an introduction to clear rules and their consequences. Also covered are adolescent feelings of loss and fear when their parents are deployed. Ted Stein from Stein Counseling Services, Ltd., will be the guess presenter.

Rear Detachment Commanders and Family Readiness Group training [ back to top ]
A Rear Detachment Commanders (RDC)/Family Readiness Group (FRG) Training workshop will be held Monday, April 12 and Tuesday, April 13 at Army Community Service (ACS), 2111 S 8th Ave.

Topics include: ACS Overview, Volunteer Management, the roles and responsibilities of RDC/FRG Leaders, Army Family Team Building, Working with Families, Overview of Army Regulation 608-1 appendix J, “Family Readiness Group Operations,” Supporting the Unit when a Casualty Occurs, TRICARE and Legal Overview, Building a Resource Library, Working with a Family Support Network, How to be an effective FRG Leader, and Real-Life Scenarios.

Vita tax appointments still available with McCoy program   [ back to top ]
Eligible military personnel still can make appointments with the Fort McCoy Volunteer Assistance Tax Center (VITA) program.

The program is available through April 14 to active-duty, military retirees and their Family members. Services provided include free preparation and e-filing of federal and state income tax returns.

Dodgeball grudge match set for April 15 at Fitness Center  [ back to top ]
A dodgeball grudge match will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 15 at the Fort McCoy Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

Authorized patrons are encouraged to form their own five-member teams and challenge other teams. Walk-ins also are welcome to come and join with other walk-ins to form teams and compete in the free tournament.

Sign up is requested by 5:15 p.m. April 15. Prizes will be awarded. For more information, call 608-388-2290.


 CIF inventory inspection to be held April 26-30  [ back to top ]

The Fort McCoy Central Issue Facility (CIF), building 2142, will be closed April 26-30 to conduct a 100 percent semiannual inventory as mandated by Army regulations.

All emergency requests for CIF support must be approved by the CIF Property Book Officer Thomas Lovgren at 608-388-5275 or cell 608-630-5595.

IG services available at 2 McCoy locations  [ back to top ]

Anyone with an Army issue they want to address with the Inspector General at Fort McCoy has two options.

The 88th Regional Support Command and Fort McCoy Office of the Inspector General (IG) is open from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays in building 1346, South 11th Street.

An IG remote office also is open every Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. in the second-floor piano room at the Fort McCoy Community Activity Center, building 2000.

Appointments are not required, but can be made by calling 608-388-3733/3939/5816/4299.
