Fall hunting permit applications available

Applications for the 2010 fall hunting seasons at Fort McCoy are available and can be postmarked beginning Monday, March 29.

David Beckmann, Fort McCoy wildlife biologist, said applications now are available for the Gun-Deer, Muzzle-Loader, Cantonment Archery, and Fall Turkey seasons.

All of these hunts have a limited number of permits and individuals are required to submit an application to be considered for selection. Applications can be mailed starting March 29 and will be accepted until the quotas are filled.

Individuals are reminded to read the information provided with the application for specific requirements and any changes. Applications without a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) Customer Number, hand delivered, or postmarked before March 29 will be returned. Applicants are encouraged to mail their applications on March 29 as permit quotas fill up quickly.

Beckmann said applicants should not enclose money with the applications. Those selected for a quota-hunt permit will be notified and can then buy their permit(s) from an authorized WDNR Automated License Issuance System (ALIS) vendor.
WDNR ALIS vendors are located throughout Wisconsin, including Pine View Recreation Area, building 8053, and the Post Exchange (for military personnel), building 1538, at Fort McCoy.

Applications can be downloaded from the Web site http://www.mccoy.army.mil by clicking on Recreational Opportunities and hunting and fishing applications.

Applications also are available at the Fort McCoy Welcome Center, and Permit Sales Office.

Applications are not required for small game, regular archery, or fishing permits.

These permits can be bought at any time from an authorized WDNR ALIS vendor.

For more information, call the Fort McCoy Permit Sales Office, building 2168, at 608-388-3337.
