Application for fall quota hunts can be postmarked beginning March 28

Applications for the 2011 Fort McCoy hunting quota seasons can be submitted through the mail beginning Monday, March 28.

The seasons include fall turkey, gun-deer, muzzle-loader, and cantonment archery hunting, said David Beckmann, Fort McCoy wildlife biologist.

Hunters who wish to apply for permits for these seasons can send applications to the Fort McCoy Permit Sales Office, building 2168, beginning March 28. Applications are available online at the website http://www.mccoy.army.mil by clicking on Recreation Opportunities. Beckmann said applications also are available at the Welcome Center, building 35, and the Permit Sales Office.

Beckmann said applicants must have a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) Customer Number or the applications will be returned with no action taken. Applicants are encouraged to get their applications postmarked March 28 or soon after that date to maximize their chances of getting a permit, and do not need to enclose money with the applications. Applications postmarked before March 28 will be returned.

Successful applicants will be notified and then can purchase their licenses/permits through the WDNR Automated License Issuance System (ALIS) or at a Wisconsin Online Licensing Center. ALIS equipment is located throughout the state, and also at the Fort McCoy Pine View Campground, building 8053, and at the Fort McCoy Exchange (military personnel), building 1538.
