Department of the Army inspection

Master Sgt. Early catch-and-release trout season under way at McCoy   [ back to top ]
The 2012 early catch-and-release trout season for Fort McCoy and Wisconsin streams is under way through Sunday, April 29.
Anglers can fish using their 2011-2012 fishing license and Fort McCoy permit until March 31.

The 2012-2013 inland fishing season begins Saturday, May 5. Licenses and permits are available at any facility that has a Wisconsin Automatic License Issuance System. At Fort McCoy, these are located at Pine View Campground, building 8053, and the Exchange (for military personnel only), building 1538.

Time change to occur March 11 in Wisconsin  [ back to top ]

Daylight Savings Time begins Sunday, March 11 at 2 a.m.

Clocks should be set ahead one hour the night before.

Time changes also are an ideal time to check safety equipment and change batteries in smoke alarms/fire detectors, etc.


Sale of NAF items set for March 21  [ back to top ]

 A cash-and-carry sale of surplus nonappropriated fund (NAF) items will be held Wednesday, March 21 at building 1879.
The NAF sale opens at 8 a.m. to military personnel and military retirees, with a valid ID, and at 9 a.m. to the general public. The sale ends at 3 p.m.

Items for sale include furniture, pictures, small appliances and more.

Items are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, must be paid for by cash or check and picked up at the time of purchase.

Women’s History Month event set for March 27 at McCoy’s  [ back to top ]
A Women’s History Month observance will be held Tuesday, March 27 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at McCoy’s, building 1571. The guest speaker presentation begins at noon.

The guest speaker is Raeanna Johnson, founder of Empowering Women, Inc. Johnson is working toward a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Communication Studies with a minor in Women’s Studies at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

AFTB classes offered at Army Community Service Center  [ back to top ]
Army Family Team Building (AFTB) is offering workshops Wednesdays in March. The workshops are held at the Army Community Service Center, building 2111. The workshops are open to the entire Fort McCoy community.

Relationship Enhancement Skills is March 21 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Topics include enhancing personal relationships, exploring personality traits, communication, and personal conflict management. Registration is required by Friday, March 16.

Meeting Management will be offered March 28 from 8-9:30 a.m. This class outlines the reasons for meetings and how to effectively conduct them. It also explores implementing the phases of meeting management to organize productive meetings. Registration is required by Friday, March 23.

Easter Eggstravaganza set for March 31  [ back to top ]

The annual Fort McCoy Easter Eggstravaganza is Saturday, March 31. Activities begin at 10 a.m.

Breakfast with the Easter Bunny will be served from 10-11 a.m. at the Rustic Inn, building 2000. Photos with the Easter Bunny, Easter picture coloring and face painting will be offered from 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. at the Exchange, building 1538.

The Easter Egg Hunt begins at 12:30 p.m. at Constitution Park. In the case of inclement weather, the hunt will be moved to the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

Sportsman’s Range memberships available at discounted rate  [ back to top ]
Fort McCoy’s Sportsman’s Range will open for the season Saturday, April 7 and offer memberships purchased prior to opening day at a discount rate. The rates will be $40 for military personnel and $50 for civilians. Memberships can be purchased at Pine View Campground. Membership includes free league entrance fees, no daily range fees, discounts on range events and a 10 percent discount on apparel.

Daily fees for personnel without memberships are $4 for military and $5 for other authorized patrons. Skeet and trap targets cost $3.50 for a round of 25.

The Sportsman’s Range is open to military personnel on active-duty status, retired military, Department of Defense (DoD) civilian employees, retired DoD civilian employees, DoD contractor employees working full-time at Fort McCoy, and immediate Family members and guests. The facility includes a Rifle Range (50, 100 and 200 meters), Pistol Range (50 meters), Combination Trap and Skeet Shotgun Range and an elevated archery range.

Love & Logic parenting workshop set for April at ACS Center  [ back to top ]

A Parenting with Love & Logic workshop will be offered in April at the Army Community Service (ACS) Center, building 2111,
Modules 1-3 will be held Tuesday, April 3 from 8:30-11:30 a.m.; modules 3-5 will be held Tuesday, April 10 from 8:30-11:30 a.m.; and modules 5-7 will be held Tuesday, April 17 from 8 a.m.-noon.

Through simple and practical techniques, the workshop aims to put the fun back into parenting and helps parents raise children who are self-confident, motivated and ready for the real world. Love and Logic is a philosophy founded in 1977 by Jim Fay and Foster W. Cline, M.D. It is the approach of choice among leading educators, parents, and other professionals worldwide.

Lego building competition to be held April 11-15  [ back to top ]

Youth in the Fort McCoy community can participate in a Lego building competition at Fort McCoy April 11-15.

Participants must have parental permission. Entries must fit in a 24-by-24 inch square and be made completely by participants.
Categories are ages 4-6, 7-10 and 11-17.

Arts and Crafts submissions accepted beginning May 1  [ back to top ]
The Army Arts and Crafts Contest will accept submissions from May 1-June 30.

Submission must be entered in Group I (novice) or Group II (accomplished), based on the experience level of the artist. Categories include ceramics, drawings, fibers and textiles, glass, metals and jewelry, digital art, mixed media, paintings and wood.

All authorized Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons with an Army Knowledge Online e-mail account are eligible to enter the contest.
