The addition of these eight homes brings the total of government-owned military housing units on Fort McCoy to 55.

The new housing has been issued to eligible active-duty Soldiers on permanent change of station orders who were on the housing wait list.

This housing project was constructed as a result of funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), also known as stimulus funds. Gohman Construction of St. Joseph, Minn., was the contractor.

The $3.3 million construction project included infrastructure, streets, water and sewer and landscaping.

Carlson Construction of Joliet, Ill., constructed 23 military housing units, completed in the first phase of the project.

These units, which also were funded with ARRA stimulus funds, were occupied in May 2011.

All 31 housing units in the two projects feature four bedrooms, kitchens, laundries, Family rooms and two-car garages.

Plans are in place to construct additional military Family housing on South Post to satisfy Fort McCoy’s housing requirement of 134 units, as calculated by an Army Housing Market Analysis.

The next project to add military housing on South Post is scheduled for fiscal year 2014, according to the Fort McCoy Family Housing Office.
