Ash Wednesday Services

Members of the Fort McCoy community attend an Ash Wednesday Service Feb. 13 at the Fort McCoy Catholic Chapel. Monsignor Delbert Malin led the service to observe the beginning of the period of Lent at Fort McCoy. Catholic Mass is held each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. at building 1759.

Credit union relocates to building 1501  [ back to top ]
The RIA Federal Credit Union has moved to building 1501 located on the northwest corner of J Street and 10th Avenue and will reopen Monday, Feb. 25. Operating hours and contact information remain the same.

The facility is open Monday through Wednesday 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; and Thursday through Friday 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-5 p.m.

The new location has an outdoor walk-up ATM vestibule and a large night-time deposit box. For more information, call 608-388-2171 or 608-269-0472.


 Learn to change vehicle oil during March 2 clinic [back to top ]

The Automotive Skills Center will offer an oil changing clinic Saturday, March 2 at 10 a.m.

The clinic will offer step-by-step instruction.

The workshop fee is $1 and is open to authorized Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons.

The Automotive Skills Center is open Thursdays and Fridays from 1-9 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Customer Appreciation, Chili Taste-Off at Whitetail Ridge  [ back to top ]

A Customer Appreciation and Chili Taste-Off event will be held Saturday, March 2 with activities beginning at 1 p.m. The event is open to the public.

The Chili Taste-Off is from 1-2 p.m. (set up begins at 12:30 p.m.) with award winners being announced at 2:15 p.m. Chili will be judged on color, aroma, consistency and taste. Prizes will be awarded to the top three recipes. Participants must be registered by noon March 2.

Customer Appreciation activities include door-prize drawings at 2:30 p.m., Food Bingo from 3-4 p.m. and a drawing for a 2013/2014 Whitetail Ridge Ski Pass at 4:15 p.m. Winners must be present for prize drawings.

Money Smart workshop set for March 5  [ back to top ]
“Money Smart — Building Knowledge, Security, and Confidence” will be held Tuesday, March 5 from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Army Community Service Center, building 2111.

Workshop topics include an introduction to credit; how to keep track of your money; why you should save; how your credit history will affect your future; how to make a credit card work for you; and know what you’re borrowing before you buy.

BOSS program hosts monthly events through April  [ back to top ]
The Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (BOSS) program has planned several events in the upcoming months. BOSS membership is open to single and geographical bachelor Soldiers and Department of Defense civilians. Married personnel may attend meetings and volunteer, but may not be funded at BOSS events, unless at a large community event sponsored by BOSS.

BOSS will hold social hours at McCoy’s, building 1571, March 6 and April 3 at 4 p.m. The social hours will include free bowling for all BOSS members.

BOSS meetings are scheduled for March 14 and April 11 at 11 a.m. at the Community Activity Center, building 2000. The meetings are a time to plan recreation and community service events as well as voice any quality-of-life concerns.

BOSS will volunteer at the Easter Eggstravaganza March 23 at 9:30 a.m. The program is seeking BOSS members to volunteer with face painting, the Easter egg hunt and pictures with the Easter Bunny.

An Adopt a Highway clean-up event will be held April 24 at 3:30 p.m. The BOSS program will pick up trash along Highway 21 from X Road to Firework Road. All safety equipment will be provided.

Rear Commander, FRG training set for March at ACS Center  [ back to top ]

Rear Detachment Commander and Family Readiness Group (FRG) training will be held March 11-12 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Army Community Service (ACS) Center, building 2111.

Topics include ACS overview, volunteer management, the roles and responsibilities of the rear detachment commander and FRG leader, Army Family Team Building, working with Families, overview of Army Regulation 608-1/Appendix J, TRICARE and legal overview, building a resource library, supporting the unit when a casualty occurs, and real-life scenarios.

Inch Your Way to Success challenge at Rumpel begins March 11  [ back to top ]
An Inch Your Way to Success fitness challenge will be offered at the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

Participants will have their measurements taken Monday, March 11 and again Thursday, May 2.

The male and female who lose the most inches each will win a $75 Valley View Mall gift card. Winners will be announced at the Wellness Fair Wednesday, May 8.

Participants will receive weekly e-mails/follow ups with the Fitness Center trainers throughout the challenge.

Newcomers Orientation to be held March 13 at ACS  [ back to top ]

A Newcomers Orientation will be held Wednesday, March 13 from 8:15 a.m.-12:45 p.m. at Army Community Service 2111 South 8th Ave.

Members of the Fort McCoy can attend to learn about the many services Fort McCoy provides.

The event includes an installation bus tour. Childcare may be provided on a space-available basis for children ages 1-5.

If personnel desire childcare, they must register with the Child, Youth and School Services Central Registry Office at 608-388-8956, building 1668, no later than the Wednesday prior to the Newcomers Orientation.

Final Cash and Carry Army Lodging Sale set for March 19  [ back to top ]

The final Nonappropriated Fund (NAF) Cash and Carry Army Lodging Sale will be held Tuesday, March 19 at building 643 at Fort McCoy.

Common Access Card holders and military retirees (ID cards are required) can attend beginning at 8 a.m.

The general public can attend from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Items for sale include: refrigerators, microwaves, washers, dryers, cross-country skis, linens/towels, room safes, room safes, power tools and more.

Items are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Item quantities are limited.

Items must be paid for by cash or check and picked up at time of purchase.

Checks should be made out to Army Lodging.

Armed Forces Day Open House event set for Saturday, May 18  [ back to top ]
Planning is under way for the 2013 Armed Forces Day Open House. The event will be held Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fort McCoy’s Commemorative Area.

Event highlights include personalized ID tags, camouflage face painting, a natural resources display, police and fire department equipment displays, a children’s confidence course and much more.

The Commemorative Area, which includes the History Center, five World War II-era buildings, the Equipment Park, and Veterans Memorial Plaza, will be available for viewing throughout the day.

Guests must enter the installation through Gate 15 off of Highway 21 between Sparta and Tomah, Wis.

Adults must be prepared to present photo identification.
