Participants in the February Thaw 5K run/walk brave the elements during the Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation event Feb. 7. Winners in the male category were: first place, Richard Mancl, 20 minutes, 33 seconds (20:33); second place, Isaac Haugen, 20:52 and third place, Rodney Angell, 23:09. Winners in the female category were: first place, Nancy McCoy , 22:14; second place, Jodi Perez, 23:03 and third place, Melissa Bailey, 23:54. The next 5k run/walk at Fort McCoy is set for May 8 during the Wellness Fair event.

A Blackhawk helicopter crew trained on taking off and landing in cold weather conditions in the cantonment area at Fort McCoy. The helicopter was from the Wisconsin National Guard. The crew was from the Army Aviation Support Facility 2, an Army National Guard unit, in Madison, Wis., and was on a training mission at Fort McCoy Feb. 8.

Spc. Joshua Freeman (right) and Pfc. Adrian Cermeno of the 1st Battalion, 143rd Field Artillery of Bakersfield and Santa Maria, Calif., examine and judge entries in the Lego competition at the Fort McCoy Community Activity Center. The competition required participants to create entries that incorporated an Army or Army Family theme. Prizes were awarded to the first- and second-place finishers in three age categories — 4-6 years old, 7-10 years old and 11 years and older. The competition ran from Feb. 12-16.

Three generations of the Diehl Family make Valentine’s Day cards during a Jan. 26 workshop at Fort McCoy. About 30 people attended each Valentine’s Day card workshop held Jan. 26 and Feb. 2. The event was sponsored by Fort McCoy Army Community Service. For more information about Army Community Service programs, call 608-388-3505.
