New procedures at Fort McCoy gates that are used to access and leave the installation have been implemented to increase the security for the installationís work force, said Kathie Kirkpatrick of the Fort McCoy Directorate of Emergency Services (DES).

The new procedures will not affect the operations and hours at the Main Gate and Gate 20, which will continue to be open 24 hours daily and allow for entry and exit from the installation for all vehicles, including commercial.

Effective immediately, Gates 5 (Sparta) and 15 (Tomah) will allow traffic in only one direction when they are open. Motorists entering through these gates must have vehicle registration decals.

Motorists entering post through Gates 5 and 15 from State Highway 21 between the hours of 5:30-8 a.m. weekdays will be allowed to travel only in one direction and will not be allowed to exit the post via those gates during that time.

Commercial vehicles will not be allowed to use these gates to enter the installation. They will be rerouted to the Main Gate or Gate 20 to enter the installation at all times.

From 3-5:30 p.m. weekdays, motorists leaving Fort McCoy still can exit the installation using Gates 5 and 15, but traffic only will be allowed to travel in that direction. Traffic from State Highway 21 will not be allowed to enter the installation through those gates during this time, instead being referred to the Main Gate or Gate 20.

Gates 5 and 15 also may be closed during times of low traffic, such as federal holidays and holiday seasons.

The new gate procedures wonít affect the vehicle registration procedures.

Personnel needing to obtain new or renew their vehicle registrations can visit Vehicle Registration at building 35 (near the Main Gate) from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays, except for holidays.

For more information, call 608-388-4988.

Visitor permits also will be available only at the Main Gate/Vehicle Registration area.

Any questions about the new gate procedures can be directed to the DES Police Desk at 608-388-2266.
