|Fort McCoy’s annual Winter Extravaganza at
Whitetail Ridge Ski Area is Saturday, Jan. 29 from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Activities include an adventure race, pancake breakfast, snow tubing, skiing, slalom skiing, snowboard rail jam, snow-pile dig, obstacle course and a unit challenge tug-o-war.
Specials include discounted tubing and lift tickets, and door prizes. The event is open to the public.
Transportation will be available for Soldiers from McCoy’s Community Club to Whitetail Ridge at 8 and 11 a.m., and 2 and 5 p.m.

|Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program
appointments in the Fort McCoy community currently are being accepted, with
the actual appointments scheduled Feb. 1-April 14.
The VITA program provides free federal and state tax-preparation assistance and e-filing to authorized active-duty and retired military personnel and their Family members.
Appointments can be made by calling 608-388-2165.

McCoy’s, building 1571, and the Community Activity Center, building 2000, at
Kickoff time will be at approximately 5:25 p.m. Central Time at Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
McCoy’s will open at 3:30 p.m. and offer door prizes and hot-dog and beverage specials.
The Community Activity Center, will open at 11 a.m. Both facilities have large-screen televisions.

|Sponsorship Training will be held Tuesday, Feb.
8 from 10 – 11 a.m. at Army Community Service (ACS), building 2111.
Sponsorship is a commander’s program that assists Soldiers, civilian employees and Families during the reassignment process; assists Families who are geographically separated from their sponsor for duty requirements, and, improves unit or organizational cohesion and readiness.
Training topics include regulations and forms, program entitlements, types of sponsorship, sponsor responsibilities, commander responsibilities and e-sponsorship.

Units may schedule unit sponsorship training by completing the Training Request Form six weeks in advance. Forms are available at http://mccoymwr.com/soldier-family-programs/army-community-service.html under the ACS Links section.
After Feb. 8, the next scheduled Sponsorship training will be held Tuesday, May 3.

|Care Team Training to be held Feb. 10 [ back to top ]|
|Care Team Training will be held Thursday, Feb.
10 from 8 – 10 a.m. at Army Community Service (ACS), building 2111.
When a casualty occurs within a unit, the commander may activate a Care Team based on the affected Family’s needs and request for support. This training will assist commands in recruiting volunteers, as well as educating current and potential volunteers on the roles and responsibilities associated with belonging to a unit’s Care Team.

|Defense Travel System class schedule announced [ back to top ]|
The Lead Defense Travel administrator offers three classes monthly.
The Defense Travel System (DTS) Approval Process and Travel Policy class is held the first Wednesday each month from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. This class explains how to review/approve documents using DTS and the sources of Department of Defense (DoD) Temporary Duty (TDY) Travel Policy. The class topics include roles and responsibilities of a reviewing official, the route- and-review process, reviewing/approving screens, delegating signature authority, and sources of DoD TDY travel policy.
The DTS TDY Documents class is held the second Wednesday and Thursday each month from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. This two-day class explains how to create authorizations and vouchers. Class topics include introduction to DTS, DTS login and self-registration, DTS users, navigating DTS, Enterprise Web Training System, authorizations, and vouchers. This class also provides hands-on experience by creating authorizations and vouchers in class.
The Defense Travel Administrator Maintenance Tool Overview class is held the fourth Wednesday each month from 8 a.m. – noon. The class topics include DTS permission levels, organizations, routing lists groups, people, and lines of accounting.

|Mystery theater seeks actors for interactive comedy at McCoy’s Feb. 24-25 [ back to top ]|
A casting call for Murder 101, an interactive, comedy, murder-mystery
dinner production currently is under way.
The performance centers on a class reunion of a closing high school.
As various alumni gather to say goodbye to their beloved alma mater, old rivalries and new alliances add up to an evening of murder and mayhem.
Cast members do not need to have formal acting experience. Everyone in the Fort McCoy community, including Family members, is eligible to be a cast member.
Cast members must be available for all rehearsal and performance times. Rehearsals will be held Feb. 21-24 in the evening for two to four hours. Performance dates are Feb. 24 and 25.
Performers won’t be paid, but cast members will receive dinner on performance nights.
