Tomah VA offers H1N1 shots
to all veterans enrolled in system

The Tomah Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center now offers H1N1 flu shots to all veterans honorably discharged from the military and enrolled in the VA healthcare system.

The VA initially targeted specific veteran populations including pregnant veterans and those with complicating health factors that presented additional risk.

Frontline caregivers also were considered and as vaccine has become available both veteran and employee priority groups were offered vaccinations.

Veterans can receive the H1N1 flu shots at Tomah VA Medical Center,  Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. while quantities last.

It is recommended that veterans call ahead to the Tomah VA Immunization Hotline, 1-800-USA-TOMA Ext. 61787 to ensure availability in their area.

“This is a very good time to get vaccinated,” said Tomah VA Infection Control Officer Gail Schneider.  “Just because a lot of people took off for the holidays does not mean the H1N1 flu virus did.”
