Fitness center offers myriad training
|Almost any fitness opportunity available at commercial
fitness facilities is available to authorized patrons of the Fort McCoy
Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122. Authorized patrons also pay no
fees to use the McCoy facility, potentially saving hundreds of dollars
Jeff Uhlig, chief of the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and
Recreation Community Recreation Division, said authorized fitness center
users include servicemembers, Department of Defense employees and their
Family members. Everyone who has a Common Access Card is requested to
bring it to the facility to help facilitate registration, he said.
The process begins with checking in at the front counter. Uhlig said
fitness center staff can answer any questions personnel have about the
facility or how to use the equipment.
The fitness center offers the latest in exercise equipment, such as
treadmills and stationary bicycles in the Cardio Theater. Among other
fitness opportunities are a free-weight room, an indoor swimming pool,
and a sauna.
Classes are available and are taught by qualified/certified instructors.
A popular, recent addition is Zumba, a Latin-inspired dance class. The
fitness center also offers volleyball, basketball and flag football
Uhlig said newly refurbished locker rooms offer comfortable settings to
prepare for exercise. Lockers are available to secure and store clothing
and personal items. Towels and locks are available for use in the
facility and can be obtained at the check-in counter. Shower and
restroom facilities also are available.
Uhlig said military or civilian organizations wishing to pursue group
fitness opportunities can reserve facilities/equipment by sending an

Monday-Thursday 5 a.m.-8 p.m.; Fridays 5 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday
6 a.m.-2 p.m.
The indoor pool is open Monday-Thursday 6-8 a.m. and 11 a.m.-7 p.m.;
Fridays 6 a.m.-8 a.m. and 11 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 11
a.m.-1:30 p.m. The current hours were driven by budgetary constraints,
but were a product of customer input, Uhlig said.
